Key facts
- Southall's pass rate was 44.8% in 2025/26 from 8,543 tests, 5.2 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 19 of 24 centres in London (London average 49.1%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 4.3 points below it.
- The rate has been stable since 2021/22, moving between 40.7% (2023/24) and 46.2% (2024/25).
- Male candidates passed at 46.9% and female candidates at 40.8%, a gap of 6.1 points, wider than at most centres.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 12.3 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 3.4 weeks, so waits have grown by about 8.9 weeks.
Four fifths of the streets around this centre are 20 mph. That single figure explains most of what candidates find hard here. Southall's pass rate is 44.8 per cent, nineteenth of the twenty-four London centres, and the commonest reason is speed: not driving too fast in a 30, but sitting at 25 in a 20 for half a mile without noticing.
Yeading is under two kilometres away and passes eight points higher; Greenford, a little further, passes lower. The centre itself is on a residential street on the Greenford side of Southall, and the loops spend most of their length in exactly the kind of streets the limit was set for, with 70 schools inside the area they cover.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
The 20 mph limit is the spine of a Southall test, but it is not the only thing. Eighty-five of the junctions in the area are signalled, which is a lot of decision points inside a small area. Add three level crossings and 70 schools, and the routes are unusually crowded.
Ruislip Road and Ruislip Road East run east to west across the whole area and appear on two of the five loops. Greenford Road and Greenford Avenue cross them north to south. Those four carry the through traffic, the buses and most of the lights. Lady Margaret Road, Kensington Road and Mornington Road are the residential ones, and Allenby Road, where the centre is, is one of them.
Oldfields Circus and the Polish War Memorial are the two large roundabouts in this area, both multi-lane, both unforgiving of a late lane change. Everything else that counts as a roundabout here is a mini one, and there are twenty-five of them. That is the ratio to train for: not one big roundabout done carefully, but a string of small ones done consistently.
Three points come up again and again on tests here. The drop from a 30 mph road to a 20 mph side street happens at the sign, not after it. Mini-roundabouts need a signal on the exit even when they look like nothing. And a level crossing means stopping properly, not rolling through because the lights are off. The pass rate here is one of the lower ones in London, and the marks that make the difference are mostly in that list.

Test day at Southall
The centre is at 295 Allenby Road, on the northern edge of Southall towards Greenford, rather than in the town centre itself. It is a residential street, so there is no forecourt and nothing to spot from a distance. Look for the number.
Southall station is the practical way in if you are not being driven, with Elizabeth line and Great Western services and frequent buses onward through the town. Allow for the walk or the bus at the far end; the station is not next door.
Only car tests are conducted here. There is no motorcycle testing and no ADI testing, which keeps the site smaller and quieter than the neighbouring centres at Yeading and Greenford.
DVSA publishes no accessibility statement for this centre at all, neither confirming nor ruling out wheelchair access. If you need step free access, ring ahead rather than finding out on the morning.
Parking is not published either. On a residential street the realistic plan is that your instructor drops you at the door and finds a space along the road, which is what usually happens at centres of this kind. Booking and cancelling go through GOV.UK only.
