Privacy
This page says what PassRank collects, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, so we can send a sign-in link, and the handle you choose for posts.
- Subscription: Stripe handles payment details; we store only the Stripe identifiers and the subscription status. We never see your card number.
- Posts: what you write in the forum, with your handle and the time.
- Practice drives: if you are signed in, the results of drives (faults and pass/fail) so you can see your history.
- Waiting-time alerts: the email address and centre you asked about, until you unsubscribe.
- Location: if you press “Use my location”, your coordinates are used once to rank centres and are not stored.
If you list yourself as an instructor
An instructor listing is a public page. Everything you enter on the join form is meant to be read by learners looking for a driving instructor, and it is published as soon as we approve the listing: your name, your business name if you give one, your DVSA approved driving instructor number, the contact details you choose to publish, the languages you teach in, your hourly rate if you set one, and the test centres you cover.
- Why we can publish it: because you asked us to. The lawful basis is consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.
- Your ADI number: we show it so learners can check you on the DVSA register, and we use it to confirm the listing is yours. We do not share it with anyone else.
- Enquiries: when a learner or an advertiser contacts us about a listing, we keep the message and the email address until the enquiry is dealt with, and for up to a year afterwards so we can answer follow-ups.
- Taking it down: email [email protected] and we will unpublish the listing. Unpublishing is immediate; the record is deleted within 30 days, and search engines usually drop the page within a few weeks after that, which is outside our control.
- Corrections: tell us what is wrong and we will change it. We would rather fix a listing than argue about it.
We do not sell instructor details, pass them to lead-generation companies, or add anyone to the directory who has not asked to be there.
Cookies
One cookie keeps you signed in and another remembers your cookie choice. Server logs record requests for up to 30 days for security and debugging.
If you arrive from one of our ads, the ad’s campaign name (for example “google-routes”) is kept in that browser tab until you close it, and added to the payment record if you buy, so we know which ads pay for themselves. It is not a cookie and holds nothing about you.
Meta ad cookies, only if you accept. We ask before using them, and saying no changes nothing else on the site. If you accept, Meta’s pixel sets its own cookies (_fbp, and _fbc if you came from a Facebook or Instagram ad) and tells Meta which pages you viewed. If you then start a checkout, start a trial or pay, we also tell Meta directly from our server: the event, the price, your email address in hashed form (scrambled so it can only be matched, not read), those two cookie values, your IP address and browser type. Meta uses this to measure our ads and show them to people more likely to find PassRank useful. We keep those values with the payment record at Stripe. You can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page. The app never uses them.
Third parties
Stripe (payments), Brevo (email delivery), Vercel (hosting), OpenFreeMap (map tiles), postcodes.io (postcode lookup), Meta (ad measurement, only with your consent) and, if you open a Street View tour, Google Maps. Each processes only what is needed for that function.
Your rights
You can delete any post or reply you have written from the post itself: the text is replaced and your name comes off it. A post that has replies stays as an empty stub so the answers under it still make sense. You can also delete your whole account from your account page; that removes the account and everything tied to it, and cuts your name off the posts you leave behind, which stay on the boards as “Former member”. Records of payments you made stay, without your name or email address, for six years, because UK tax law requires it. If you want a post removed rather than detached, email [email protected] and we will take it down.
You can ask for a copy of your data by emailing [email protected]. We act within 30 days. The lawful basis for processing is contract (account and subscription), legal obligation (keeping payment records for tax) and legitimate interest (running the forum and keeping the site secure), and consent for Meta ad cookies.
