Key facts

  • Mill Hill's pass rate was 51.4% in 2025/26 from 9,797 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 10 of 24 centres in London (London average 49.1%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 2.3 points above it.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 7.6 points, from 43.8% to 51.4%.
  • Male candidates passed at 52.8% and female candidates at 49.7%, a gap of 3.1 points.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 14.7 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
  • A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 10.1 weeks, so waits have grown by about 4.6 weeks.

Mill Hill is one of the more forgiving London centres, and switching away from it rarely helps. Just over half of candidates pass, which puts it tenth of the 24 centres in London, and the rate has climbed since 2021. The three nearest alternatives, Hendon, Borehamwood and Barnet, all pass at within a couple of points of the same figure, so a candidate shopping for an easier centre is mostly shopping for a longer drive.

What makes the driving here distinctive is the school run and the limits. Sixty-seven schools sit within the area around the centre on Bunn's Lane, which is a high number for anywhere. Unusually for London, most of the roads are still 30 mph rather than 20, so the pace is quicker than at the inner-London centres and there is more traffic moving at it.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

Mini-roundabouts are the signature of this area. There are 34 of them in the streets around the centre against 38 signalled junctions, an unusually even split, and only four conventional islands nearby, at Beverley Drive, Knightswood Close, Charcot Road and Brent Street. On the practice loops on this page the roundabout count per loop runs between two and four, so what you meet far more often is a mini or a plain give-way. Signal for the exit, look right properly, and steer round the painted circle rather than over it.

The limits set this centre apart from the rest of London. Around four-fifths of the roads mapped nearby are 30 mph and only a small share is 20, so the traffic moves. Watford Way carries the fastest driving, with dual carriageway for the longer routes, while Bunn's Lane, Page Street, Wise Lane and Selvage Lane carry the ordinary town part of the test at 30.

The estates are the other half. Grahame Park Way, Field Mead, Clayton Field, Lanacre Avenue and Heybourne Crescent form a grid of wide residential roads with parking on both sides and turnings close together. Most manoeuvres are set there, and a pull-up on the right or a bay park has real parked cars to work around rather than an empty kerb.

Sixty-seven schools sit inside the area covered, so timing matters more here than at most centres. A slot in the middle of the afternoon puts you into the school run: cars stopping where they should not, doors opening, children crossing between parked vehicles. If you have a choice of times, mid-morning is the calmer test.

Test day at Mill Hill

The centre is Unit 9 on the Grannard Business Centre on Bunn's Lane, a few minutes on foot from Mill Hill Broadway station. That is close enough that arriving by train and walking is genuinely practical here, which is not true of most centres.

DVSA publishes no accessibility information for Mill Hill. If you use a wheelchair or need an adjustment on the day, ring the booking line in advance rather than finding out at the door. Nothing is published about candidate parking either. A business centre of this kind usually has some space, but Bunn's Lane is busy and that is only what is typical, so leave time to park properly and walk the last part.

Car tests are held here, along with ADI part 2 and ADI part 3. There are no motorcycle tests. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled through GOV.UK and nowhere else.

Ten minutes before your slot is early enough. The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and asks you to sign the declaration confirming the car is insured for the test. The eyesight check is done outside on Bunn's Lane, reading a number plate on a parked car, before you get in together.
