Key facts
- Barnet's pass rate was 49.9% in 2025/26 from 12,397 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 13 of 24 centres in London (London average 49.1%), a mid-table pass rates in the region.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 3.9 points, from 46% to 49.9%.
- Male candidates passed at 51.4% and female candidates at 47.7%, a gap of 3.7 points.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 21.1 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 20.8 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 13.6 weeks, so waits have grown by about 7.5 weeks.
The number that should shape your planning at Barnet is not the pass rate, which sits almost exactly on the national average, but the wait. Candidates tested in July 2026 had waited a median of twenty-one weeks, more than eight weeks longer than a year earlier, and roughly double the wait at Borehamwood, Mill Hill and Hendon, all of which are within seven kilometres and all of which pass slightly more candidates. The centre itself is in Raydean House, an office building on Western Parade, on the Great North Road a short way below High Barnet station. The driving here is honest suburban work rather than anything exotic, and the pass rate has been creeping up, four points over four years.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
The striking thing about the road profile here is what is absent. There are no large roundabouts in the area at all and only five mini-roundabouts. In their place are junctions, and a great many of them: eighty-seven give-way junctions on the loops, plus seventeen sets of traffic lights, fifteen signal-controlled crossings and ten zebras. This is a test decided at give-way lines and pedestrian crossings, not on roundabout lane discipline.
That shows in the practice loops on this page. They run eight to twelve kilometres and carry an unusual number of turns, the busiest with eighteen right turns and nineteen left. Right turns across oncoming traffic are the recurring demand, and because give-ways rather than roundabouts control most junctions, you are the one judging the gap, over and over, for forty minutes.
For somewhere so residential the area is threaded with A-roads. The A1000, A110, A111, A411, A1081, A109 and A5109 all pass through. Speeds stay low, though. Every road in the area is either a 30 or a 20, with just under a quarter now in 20 zones, and a dozen traffic-calming features keep them honest.
Barnet Hill is the feature people remember. It is a genuine gradient on the main road, and a hill start is a real prospect rather than a theoretical one. The residential streets that come up most are Potters Lane, Lyonsdown Road, Hadley Road, Longmore Avenue and Cranbrook Road. Thirty-seven schools sit within the area, so the crossings are busy at either end of the day.

Test day at Barnet
Raydean House is an office building on the Great North Road, so this is a town-centre test centre rather than a unit on an estate. Parking is on site, but listings call it limited, which is normal for a building of this kind on a main road. Do not plan on a space being free if you arrive late.
Facilities are the one thing sources genuinely disagree on. Some listings say there are toilets, others say there are none, and at least one states the building is not wheelchair accessible. A waiting room is mentioned consistently. If you need either a toilet or step-free access, treat it as unconfirmed and ring the centre beforehand rather than discovering the answer at ten to nine.
The exit is the part worth rehearsing. You pull out of the centre straight onto a busy main road, so your first decision of the test is a gap judgement on the A1000 with traffic behind you. Practise that specific manoeuvre until it is dull.
High Barnet station is about seven hundred metres away on the Northern line, which makes this one of the easier London centres to reach without a car. February and May have been the strongest months here historically and June and September the weakest, though the spread is only a couple of points.
