Key facts
- Borehamwood's pass rate was 50.8% in 2025/26 from 7,195 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 11 of 24 centres in East of England (East of England average 51.4%), a mid-table pass rates in the region.
- The rate has been stable since 2021/22, moving between 46.8% (2024/25) and 52.1% (2021/22).
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 10.9 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- 30.2% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Twenty-nine mini-roundabouts are mapped within two and a half kilometres of the Borehamwood centre. That is a lot for a town this size, and it shapes the whole test. Add the bigger ones on Elstree Way, Ripon Way and Barnet Lane and a route rarely runs far without an entry decision to make. Otherwise this is a straightforward suburban test: more than eight in ten of the roads mapped around the centre carry a 30 mph limit, with a little 40 and 50 out towards the bypass. The practice loops on this page are short, seven to eleven kilometres, so the pace picks up early and stays there. The pass rate is about the national average and the wait has come down over the past year.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Barnet Lane, Barnet Road and Rowley Lane take most of the driving on the practice loops on this page, with Stirling Way and Ripon Way at the start and the finish. The loops are short, between seven and eleven kilometres, and each carries five to eight roundabouts, so there is no long quiet stretch on which to build confidence.
Mini-roundabouts are the local speciality. Twenty-nine of them are mapped within two and a half kilometres of the centre. Two things get marked on them again and again: driving over the painted circle instead of around it, and forgetting the exit signal because the whole thing took four seconds. Neither is hard to fix, but both need practising on real ones rather than talking through.
Right turns are the other pattern. One of the shorter loops asks for nine of them in under seven kilometres, mostly out of residential roads onto busier ones, where the gap has to be judged rather than waited for.
A small share of the roads around the centre carry 40 and 50 limits, out on the Barnet Way and Barnet Bypass side, and that is the fastest driving on the routes. Elstree Way and the roundabouts along it carry the commercial traffic and are busiest at the ends of the working day.
Manoeuvres are usually set on the quieter estate roads, around Balmoral Drive, Furzehill Road and Manor Way, where the kerbs are straight and there is enough parking on one side to make a pull-up on the right worth doing properly.

Test day at Borehamwood
The centre is Unit 1, Stirling Court, on Stirling Way, which is a business and industrial estate rather than a high street address. Stirling Court holds several units, so the number on the door is what to look for.
GOV.UK lists car tests and ADI part 3 at this centre, and nothing at all about access: no wheelchair statement, not even the standard line about DVSA making arrangements. Ring the booking line ahead if you need to know about steps or the entrance.
Parking is not published either. Estates of this kind usually have a small number of bays and some room on the road outside, which is typical rather than confirmed, so allow a few minutes to sort the car out instead of arriving on the minute.
Ten minutes before your slot is about right. The examiner checks your licence, takes the signed insurance declaration and does the eyesight check outside before you get in the car.
The drive normally starts on the estate roads, and given how many roundabouts sit around this centre the first real decision usually comes before you have settled into the seat. Booking, moving and cancelling a test all go through GOV.UK.
