Key facts
- Telford's pass rate was 48.9% in 2025/26 from 4,963 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 13 of 26 centres in West Midlands (West Midlands average 46.2%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 2.7 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 4.5 points, from 44.4% to 48.9%.
- Male candidates passed at 52% and female candidates at 45.9%, a gap of 6.1 points, wider than at most centres.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 22.6 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 17.4 weeks, so waits have grown by about 5.2 weeks.
Telford was built around roundabouts and the test reflects it. The centre sits at 35 Horton Wood, an industrial estate north-east of the town, and the longest of the practice loops on this page takes in eleven roundabouts in about eight miles. Twenty mini-roundabouts sit within two and a half kilometres of the door, alongside eight named ones including Donnington, Leegomery and Hadley Park. Little of it is slow. Only seven per cent of the roads tagged nearby are 20 mph, and Queensway carries dual carriageway traffic at 50. The pass rate has risen since 2021 and now sits just under the national average. The wait is the harder part of booking here: over twenty weeks, against six at Shrewsbury, eleven miles up the road.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Two things shape a Telford test: roundabouts and changes of speed. Within two and a half kilometres of the centre there are twenty mini-roundabouts and eight named ones, among them Donnington, Granville, Leegomery, Hadley Park and Wombridge Interchange. The practice loops on this page carry that through. The longest runs 12.8 km with eleven roundabouts on it; the shortest, at 8.2 km, still has five. Roundabouts in series is the pattern, and the exit of one is often the approach to the next.
The mini-roundabouts are where marks go. They are painted circles at estate junctions and they are easy to treat as give-way lines. Signal for the exit, keep to the left of the paint, and do not straighten across it.
Speed is the second theme. Sixty-five per cent of the roads tagged nearby are 30 mph, but seventeen per cent are 40 and eight per cent are 50, and Queensway is dual carriageway. Routes that leave the estate on New Trench Road, or drop down towards Trench Lock, move between those limits repeatedly. Holding 30 on a 40 road is marked as undue hesitation as readily as the opposite is marked as speeding.
The estate roads themselves, Hortonwood 30, Hortonwood 35 and Hortonwood 37, are wide, quiet and well surfaced, which is why manoeuvres tend to be asked for there. Straight kerbs and empty space remove most of the excuses for a crooked reverse.

Test day at Telford
The centre is a unit at 35 Horton Wood, on the industrial estate north-east of the town centre. It is one address in a row of business premises rather than a building with its own frontage on a main road, so allow a few minutes to find the number rather than expecting a sign you can see from the junction.
DVSA publishes that you can access this centre if you use a wheelchair. Car tests and ADI part 3 tests are conducted here, and there are no motorcycle tests.
Parking is not something DVSA publishes for Telford. Estate units of this kind normally have bays on site shared with the neighbouring businesses, which is typical rather than confirmed, so arrive with time to look instead of counting on a space by the door.
No station is close enough to walk from, and most candidates arrive with an instructor or are dropped off. If you are driving yourself, the estate roads are quiet enough to sit in the car beforehand, which beats pacing about inside.
The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and asks you to sign the declaration that the car is insured for the test. The eyesight check is done on the estate road outside. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK.
