Key facts
- Stafford's pass rate was 45.8% in 2025/26 from 5,365 tests, 4.2 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 17 of 26 centres in West Midlands (West Midlands average 46.2%), a mid-table pass rates in the region.
- The rate has been stable since 2021/22, moving between 45.8% (2025/26) and 47.9% (2023/24).
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 17.7 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 14.1 weeks, so waits have grown by about 3.6 weeks.
- 36.3% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Stafford passes 45.8 per cent of its candidates, 253rd of the 302 centres ranked and seventeenth of the twenty-six in the West Midlands — which is close to the regional average of 46.2. The practice loops on this page are built on roundabouts: fourteen named ones plus four mini-roundabouts, with one loop carrying eleven roundabouts in under eleven kilometres. Almost everything is at town speed, ninety per cent of the distance at 30 mph, so there is no long fast stretch to settle into. The catch is the wait, which has gone from 11.6 weeks to 17.7 in a year.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Fourteen named roundabouts sit on these loops: Lammascote Road, Doxey Road, Unicorn Way, Rose Hill, Redgrave Drive, Pans Road, Stone Road, Greyfriars, Martin Drive, Eccleshall Road, Kingsway, Newport Road, Tenterbanks and Broad Eye. Four mini-roundabouts sit alongside them. Each of the five practice loops on this page carries between five and eleven of them in ten to twelve and a half kilometres — the busiest works out at roughly one roundabout per kilometre.
That is the shape of a Stafford test. Lane discipline and observation on the approach matter more here than at most centres, and there are only five give-way junctions on the whole set to give you a different kind of junction to think about.
The lights are dense too: twenty sets of traffic signals and twenty-seven signalled crossings, with three zebras. Twenty pieces of traffic calming means humps and tables through the residential sections.
Speed hardly varies. Ninety per cent of the distance is at 30 mph, with three per cent at 50, three at 20, one at 40 and a four per cent stretch at 10 — that last is the business park the centre sits on. The A449, A513, A518, A5013 and A5288 all appear, along with the B5066, and there is a dual-carriageway section.
Pans Road, Doxey Road, Unicorn Way, Greyfriars Way, Foregate Street, Martin Drive, Eccleshall Road, Sandon Road, Newport Road and Rose Hill carry the rest. There are no level crossings, and nineteen schools in the area.

Test day at Stafford
The centre is at Unit 7, Greyfriars Business Park, Frank Foley Way, ST16 2RF. Car tests and ADI part 3 run from here, and DVSA says you can access this test centre if you use a wheelchair.
Stafford station is a kilometre away.
Nothing is published about parking, though a business park usually means space nearby rather than at the door.
The wait is what has changed here. A median of 17.7 weeks for tests taken in July 2026, against 11.9 weeks across Great Britain, and 11.6 weeks at this same centre a year earlier — six weeks added in twelve months. The first week with a tenth of its appointments still free was twenty-four weeks out.
The nearby options do not obviously help. Featherstone is nineteen kilometres away and waits 11.9 weeks, but passes only 36.4 per cent. Stoke on Trent (Newcastle under Lyme) passes 41.6 per cent with a wait much like Stafford's. Lichfield passes 53 per cent, the best rate within twenty-five kilometres, but was waiting 20.4 weeks. If you can wait, Lichfield is the stronger centre; if you cannot, staying put beats Featherstone.
Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK.
