Key facts
- Sidcup's pass rate was 58.7% in 2025/26 from 14,318 tests, 8.7 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 1 of 24 centres in London (London average 49.1%), one of the higher pass rates in the region, 9.6 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 5.1 points, from 53.6% to 58.7%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 17.9 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- 46.2% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Sidcup has the highest pass rate of the twenty-four test centres in London, and it is not close. That reputation has consequences. It is one of the busiest centres in the country, with well over fourteen thousand tests a year, and the wait is long and still growing, so book earlier than you think you need to.
The driving is south-east London on the edge of Kent, which means mini-roundabouts, twenty-three of them within two and a half kilometres of the centre on Maidstone Road, and a stretch of the fast road network at the other extreme. Half the roads mapped nearby are 30 mph, but almost one in ten is 70.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Maidstone Road and Sidcup Hill carry the start of most routes, and the character of the area is set by its mini-roundabouts. There are twenty-three within two and a half kilometres of the centre, against only thirteen signalled junctions, so give-way judgement matters more here than reading a light. Frognal Corner and Ruxley Corner are the two big named junctions, and both are the kind of place where the lane you chose on the approach decides how the rest of it goes.
Cray Road, Bexley Lane and Rectory Lane run east towards the Cray valley and are the busier through roads: 30 mph, with parked cars, side turnings and people crossing between them. Half the roads mapped nearby are 30 mph and under a fifth are 20, so this is a test driven mostly at 30 rather than in slow zones, and the speed that gets marked is the one carried into a bend or a junction rather than an outright excess.
At the other end, almost one road in ten nearby is 70 mph. Sevenoaks Way is the fast link in the area, and the transition between a residential 30 and a road like that, in both directions, is where speed faults appear.
Knoll Road, Royal Road, Maylands Drive, Midfield Way and The Avenue are the quieter residential streets, and this is where manoeuvres are usually set. Thirty-four schools sit inside the area, which is a lot for the area, so an afternoon slot in term time will meet a school run. The loops on this page run from nine and a half to twelve and a half kilometres.

Test day at Sidcup
The centre is at 2 Crayside on the Five Arches Business Estate, off Maidstone Road. It is a business estate rather than a high street, so look for the estate entrance first and the unit number second.
DVSA lists car tests and ADI parts 2 and 3 here. There are no motorcycle tests, so the site is cars and instructors only.
Nothing is published about wheelchair access, a waiting room or toilets at Sidcup. Given how busy the centre is, expect other candidates and instructors around at the same time, but ring the booking line if you need to know what the building itself is like.
Parking is not published either. Estate units of this kind usually have bays, which is typical rather than promised, and at a centre running this many tests they will not be sitting empty. Most instructors allow for that. If you are driving yourself in, arrive with time to spare.
Albany Park station is about two kilometres away, a walk of twenty-five minutes or so rather than a short hop. The examiner checks your licence, takes the signed declaration that the car is insured and does the eyesight check on the estate before you get in. Booking and cancelling go through GOV.UK.
