Key facts
- Leicester's pass rate was 51.2% in 2025/26 from 18,868 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 13 of 20 centres in East Midlands (East Midlands average 50.8%), a mid-table pass rates in the region.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 8.5 points, from 42.7% to 51.2%.
- Male candidates passed at 53% and female candidates at 48.8%, a gap of 4.2 points.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 7.1 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 23.8 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 9.4 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 2.3 weeks.
The test centre is on Tigers Road, off Saffron Road, tucked into an industrial estate in South Wigston. Most of the driving around it is ordinary suburban 30 mph, with one thing that sets it apart: about one road in ten nearby carries a 50 mph limit. Glenhills Way and the roads out towards Blaby and Countesthorpe give you a faster, more open drive than most town centres manage, and that is usually where the marks are won or lost.
It is also the strongest of the local options by some distance. The pass rate has risen by more than eight points in four years and now sits a shade above the national average, while the other centres serving Leicester have not moved nearly as much.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Two things define the driving here. The first is mini-roundabouts. There are around thirty-six within a couple of miles of the centre and only one full-size roundabout of any note, at Windley Road. If your mini-roundabout technique is shaky, this is the centre that will find it out. The second is speed limits. Nine per cent of the roads nearby are 50 mph, which is unusual for a suburban centre, and Glenhills Way is the one you are most likely to meet.
Routes typically begin on Tigers Road and Saffron Road, then work out through Blaby Road, Leicester Road and St Thomas Road into the residential streets around Sturdee Road and Saffron Lane. Countesthorpe Road and Little Glen Road take you south, with the road narrowing and the limit dropping as you reach the villages. Magna Road and Stonesby Avenue fill in the estate driving in between.
Right turns are the recurring theme. The practice loops on this page run between six and eight miles and each carries somewhere between seven and fourteen right turns, many of them across a steady stream of oncoming traffic with no filter light to help you. There are no level crossings on these routes and no dual carriageway, so the faults that come up are the ordinary ones: observation at junctions, position on the approach, and reacting to a change of limit rather than drifting through it.

Test day at Leicester
Tigers Road runs off Saffron Road into an industrial estate and the centre is signed from there. There is a car park for candidates. Male, female and disabled toilets are available, and there is ramp access through a side door for wheelchair users, which is not true of every centre this size.
Wigston is a multi-purpose site. As well as car tests it handles taxi assessments, motorcycle module tests and the driving instructor qualifying tests, so you may share the waiting room with candidates taking something quite different from you. Allow a few extra minutes and do not read a busy car park as a delay to your own slot.
South Wigston station is about five hundred metres away, seven minutes on foot, and buses run along Blaby Road and Saffron Road. That makes this one of the easier centres to reach without a lift from someone.
Waits have been moving the right way. The median has come down to around seven weeks from about twelve a year earlier, well below the national figure, so you are less dependent on hunting cancellations here than at most centres.
