Key facts
- Nuneaton's pass rate was 53.2% in 2025/26 from 6,764 tests, 3.2 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 6 of 26 centres in West Midlands (West Midlands average 46.2%), one of the higher pass rates in the region, 7 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 2.5 points, from 50.7% to 53.2%.
- Male candidates passed at 54.7% and female candidates at 51.4%, a gap of 3.3 points.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 11.4 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 8.6 weeks, so waits have grown by about 2.8 weeks.
There are 35 mini-roundabouts within a couple of miles of the Nuneaton test centre. That is a striking number for a town this size, and it is the single fact that shapes the driving here. They arrive in quick succession on the residential through routes, several of them on roads narrow enough that two cars meeting on the painted circle is a real event. Give way to the right, signal for the exit, and drive round the circle rather than over it.
The rest of the picture is ordinary: nine in ten roads nearby are 30 mph, there are no level crossings at all, and the A47 and A4254 supply the faster driving. The pass rate is one of the higher ones in the West Midlands and has risen since 2021.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Mini-roundabouts define a Nuneaton test. There are 35 of them within a couple of miles of the centre, clustered on Tomkinson Road, Croft Road, Queens Road and the other residential through routes, and they are the most common reason candidates fail here. The give way is to the right. The painted circle is to be driven around, not across. And the signal is for the exit, which on a mini-roundabout means the indicator goes on much later than instinct suggests.
Beyond them, 41 signalled junctions sit in the same radius, so lights are the other constant. The clustering on Newtown Road and Queens Road means you can be stopped at three sets inside a few hundred metres, and creeping over a stop line while watching the next set is an easy fault to pick up.
The through roads change the pace. The A47 and A4254 run past the town and there is dual carriageway within reach, so a longer loop can include a merge and a 50 mph stretch before dropping back into the 30s. One of the five loops on this page takes in six roundabouts in eleven kilometres, while the shortest is eight kilometres of turns with no roundabout at all.
There are no level crossings anywhere in the area, which removes a hazard many Midlands centres have. What replaces it is the school run. Thirty-one schools sit within the same radius, most of them on the residential 30s the routes use, and Tuttle Hill and Heath End Road both change character after three in the afternoon.

Test day at Nuneaton
The centre is at 54 Vernons Lane in Stockingford, on the western side of the town rather than in the centre. It is a residential street address, so look for the number.
One thing in the DVSA record matters more than anything else here: you cannot access this test centre if you use a wheelchair. That is DVSA's own wording. If it affects you, ring the booking service before you book rather than after, because the alternative is a different centre, not an adjustment on the day.
The same record lists car tests only. There is no ADI, motorcycle or lorry testing at Nuneaton, so everyone waiting is doing the same test you are.
Parking and waiting facilities are not published. On a street-fronted centre of this kind, candidate parking is usually on the road nearby rather than on site, which is typical rather than confirmed, so give yourself time to find a legal space and walk back.
Nuneaton station is a little over a mile away. Waits were around eleven weeks in July 2026, close to the national picture, and moving or cancelling a test is done only through GOV.UK.
