Key facts
- Coventry's pass rate was 40% in 2025/26 from 13,771 tests, 10 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 23 of 26 centres in West Midlands (West Midlands average 46.2%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 6.2 points below it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 2.4 points, from 42.4% to 40%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 6.8 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- 27.6% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
The Coventry test centre is not in Coventry. It sits on the Bayton Road Industrial Estate at Exhall, on the northern edge of the city, with Bedworth station closer to the door than anything in Coventry itself. So the driving is estate roads, older through routes and a ring of roundabouts rather than city-centre traffic.
The other thing to know before you book is the pass rate. Coventry ranks 293rd of the 302 centres in Great Britain and 23rd of the 26 in the West Midlands, and close to 14,000 candidates sit a test here each year. Nuneaton, a short drive north, passes more than half of its candidates. Coventry passes four in ten. Waits here are shorter than the national median, which is part of why the centre stays so busy.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Bayton Road feeds straight into the roundabouts, and they set the tone. Exhall Interchange, Rowleys Green Roundabout and the islands at Longford Road, Astley Lane, Bluebell Drive and Blackhorse Road are the named ones in the area, with eight mini-roundabouts among them. The practice loops on this page show it: the 9.9 km loop takes in five roundabouts, and the 12.7 km loop four plus a stretch of Longford Road.
Traffic lights are less of a feature. There are 23 signalled junctions in the streets around the centre, so most of the give-way decisions here are yours to make rather than a light's. That is where the marks go: emerging from Coalpit Fields Road or Hurst Road onto a busier road, judging a gap, and not sitting so long that hesitation gets written down.
Around 68 per cent of the roads mapped near the centre are 30 mph. The 70 mph share belongs to the motorway and trunk roads crossing the area rather than to anything a candidate is taken on, and there is no dual carriageway work in the profile. What you get instead is a lot of 30 mph driving on roads that feel faster than they are: Windmill Road, King Street, Queen Street and Coventry Road at Exhall all invite a few extra miles an hour on a clear run.
One level crossing sits inside the area the loops cover. Drive over it once beforehand so the approach and the markings are familiar. Manoeuvres are usually set on the quieter residential streets off the through routes, where kerbs are straight and parking is heavy enough on one side to make a pull-up on the right worth practising.

Test day at Coventry
The centre is at 42 Bayton Road, inside the Bayton Road Industrial Estate at Exhall. It is a unit on a working estate rather than a shopfront, so give yourself a few minutes to find the right block, and expect lorries and vans manoeuvring around you while you wait.
DVSA publishes no accessibility information for this centre. If you use a wheelchair or need any adjustment on the day, ring the booking line before your test rather than turning up and hoping. Nothing is published about candidate parking either. On an industrial estate there is usually somewhere to leave a car, but treat that as typical rather than promised, and arrive with enough time to walk back if the nearest space is not outside the door.
Car tests are held here, along with ADI part 2 and ADI part 3. There are no motorcycle tests at Coventry. Booking, moving and cancelling is done through GOV.UK and nowhere else.
Ten minutes before your slot is early enough. The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and asks you to sign the declaration confirming the car is insured. The eyesight check is done outside on the estate, reading a number plate, before either of you gets in.
