Key facts
- Loughborough's pass rate was 42.3% in 2025/26 from 5,502 tests, 7.7 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 19 of 20 centres in East Midlands (East Midlands average 50.8%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 8.5 points below it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 4.8 points, from 47.1% to 42.3%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 23 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 19.6 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 16.3 weeks, so waits have grown by about 6.7 weeks.
- 36.6% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Loughborough is a hard centre and the numbers say so plainly. The pass rate is nineteenth of twenty in the East Midlands and has fallen since 2021, and the median wait has grown from thirteen weeks a year ago to twenty-three. The driving explains part of it. Forty-one signal-controlled junctions are tagged within two and a half kilometres of the centre, and the routes are dense with turns rather than open road. One practice loop on this page has sixteen right turns and seventeen left inside eleven kilometres. Add twenty-three schools in the same radius and a university town's traffic, and the test asks for sustained observation rather than any one difficult manoeuvre.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Turns and traffic lights are what this test is made of. Forty-one signal-controlled junctions sit within two and a half kilometres of the centre, and the practice loops on this page carry up to sixteen right turns and seventeen left inside about eleven kilometres. That is a decision every few hundred metres for the whole drive, and the failures here are rarely one dramatic moment. They are observation thinning out, a mirror skipped on the twelfth turn, or a signal left on after the turn is finished.
Belton Road, Nottingham Road, Meadow Lane and The Rushes carry most of the town driving. Nearly seven in ten roads tagged nearby are 30 mph, and side turnings come close together, so the gap you are turning into is often shorter than it looks.
Roundabouts come as a ring around the town rather than in clusters. Alan Moss Road, Forest Road, Park Road, Beacon Road, Warwick Way and Woodthorpe are the named ones, and eleven mini-roundabouts sit in the area alongside them. On the mini-roundabouts, the fault is treating the painted circle as optional.
Around a fifth of the roads tagged in the radius are 40 mph, mostly on the A512 and the A60 out towards Nottingham, and two level crossings sit in the same area.
Twenty-three schools are inside two and a half kilometres, along with the university. An afternoon slot puts you into that traffic, and it is the single most predictable thing about a Loughborough test.

Test day at Loughborough
The centre is in the Ark Business Centre on Gordon Road, close to the middle of Loughborough. Loughborough station is roughly three hundred metres away, which is unusually close, so coming by train and walking is realistic here in a way it is not at most centres.
GOV.UK lists car tests only. Nothing is published about wheelchair access or other arrangements at this centre, so if you need step-free entry or anything agreed beforehand, ring and confirm rather than assuming it is in place.
Parking is not published either. A business centre near a town centre usually has limited shared bays, which is typical rather than confirmed, so instructors tend to drop candidates and park elsewhere. Give yourself the time for that.
Tests are booked, moved and cancelled through GOV.UK only. Waits here are long, and the nearby centres at Nottingham, Leicester and Derby are all showing much shorter ones, which is worth knowing before you book rather than after.
The examiner checks your licence, asks you to sign the declaration that the car is insured for the test, and does the eyesight check outside. The drive starts near the town centre, so you are into signalled junctions and turning traffic within the first minute, without the estate warm-up that many centres give you.
