Key facts
- Rugby's pass rate was 51.4% in 2025/26 from 6,664 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 11 of 26 centres in West Midlands (West Midlands average 46.2%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 5.2 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 10.4 points, from 61.8% to 51.4%.
- Male candidates passed at 49.5% and female candidates at 53.7%, a gap of 4.2 points.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 9.4 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- 36% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Rugby is a centre with almost no roundabouts, which makes it unusual. Three of the five practice loops on this page pass none at all, and the busiest passes one. What you get instead is turns: seventeen right turns and ten left turns on a single eleven-kilometre loop, which is a decision every few hundred metres. Emerging right at a T-junction, judged into moving traffic, is the fault line here.
The centre is on Somers Road, and the record lists car tests only, so everyone waiting with you is doing the same test. The pass rate is around the national average, but it has fallen a long way since 2021, which is worth knowing before you read too much into an old figure.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Somers Road and Addison Road start most of the loops, and they set the pattern: a 30 mph residential grid with turnings close together and cars parked on both sides. More than half the roads mapped within two and a half kilometres of the centre are 30 mph, and only about one in eight is 20, so this is not a centre where the limit does the work. The traffic does.
Right turns are what Rugby produces. One loop takes in seventeen of them across eleven kilometres, another fifteen, and they are ordinary turns out of side roads onto through roads like Lawford Road, Bilton Road and Rugby Road. Gaps in the traffic are short. Hesitation is marked as readily as impatience, so the practice worth having is emerging into a gap you have judged rather than one you have waited for.
The faster roads are the A426, A428 and A4071 around the town, with dual carriageway on the Western Relief Road, and about a quarter of the roads nearby are 40 mph with another tenth at 50. Roundabouts, where they appear, are on Brownsover Road, Newbold Road and Dunchurch Road.
There is a level crossing in the area, and twenty-four schools, which is a lot for a town this size. An afternoon test in term time will meet a school run somewhere on Lawford Lane, Mulberry Road or the streets off Bilton Road. Manoeuvres are usually set on the quieter residential roads, Seabroke Avenue, Buchanan Road and Mellish Road among them, where kerbs are straight and there is parking on one side.

Test day at Rugby
The centre is at Aspect House on Somers Road, an office building rather than a purpose-built unit, so look for the number and the DVSA suite rather than a sign you can see from the road.
DVSA lists car tests here and nothing else. No motorcycle tests, no ADI parts. That keeps the place quieter than a multi-purpose centre on a weekday morning.
Nothing is published about wheelchair access, a waiting room or toilets at Rugby. That is not a statement that they are absent, only that DVSA does not publish them, so ring the booking line ahead of the day if any of it matters to you.
Parking is the same story. Offices of this kind usually have bays, and instructors commonly drop candidates at the door and park on a nearby street, which is typical rather than published. Leave a few extra minutes for it rather than arriving on the minute.
The examiner will call you by name, check your licence and ask you to sign the declaration confirming the car is insured for the test. The eyesight check is done outside, reading a plate on a parked car, before you get in. Waits at Rugby have shortened by about five weeks over the past year, and booking, moving or cancelling a test is done only through GOV.UK.

Other tests at Rugby
This centre is not car only. DVSA publishes results for these categories separately, and they are taken by different candidates on different vehicles, so the rates are not comparable with the car figure above.

What examiners mark most often
DVSA does not publish faults by centre, but it does publish them nationally. These collected the most marks across every car test in Great Britain in 2025/26, and they are the same ones you will be marked on at Rugby.
