Key facts
- Grangemouth's pass rate was 50.7% in 2025/26 from 3,761 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 49 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the lower pass rates in the region.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 2.1 points, from 52.8% to 50.7%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 23.1 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 18.3 weeks, so waits have grown by about 4.8 weeks.
- 61.3% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Grangemouth's test centre serves Falkirk as well as the town, and most routes cross between the two. That is why the loops are full of roundabouts. Bog, Westfield, Mary Street, Callendar Park, Timber Basin, Wholeflats, Redding Road and Almond Road are all within reach, with seventeen mini-roundabouts and 27 sets of traffic lights inside a mile and a half of the centre. One of the practice loops on this page takes in fifteen roundabouts in twelve kilometres. Almost nine roads in ten nearby are 30 mph, so this is not a test about speed. It is about arriving at a roundabout in the right lane at the right speed, four or five times in a row, without a lapse in concentration.

Falkirk Road and Beancross Road are the spine of a Grangemouth test. Between them they provide the named stretch on all five of the practice loops on this page. Both are 30 mph with roundabouts at intervals, and both get heavy at the start and end of the working day because of the refinery and the industrial estates on the north side of the town.
Roundabouts are the test. Bog, Westfield and Mary Street sit close together on the Falkirk side, Callendar Park is at the park end, Timber Basin, Wholeflats and Almond Road are nearer the docks and the industrial roads, and Redding Road is on the routes to the south-east. Add seventeen mini-roundabouts inside a mile and a half of the centre and the density becomes unusual. Two faults come up repeatedly: taking the left lane and then wanting the third exit, and looking only to the right on approach, so the exit arrives as a surprise.
Three level crossings sit within the same radius. Stopping properly at a closed barrier is worth practising once before the day, because the first time should not be on a test.
The residential half of the route is on Newlands Road, Craigleith Road, Grandsable Road, Dalratho Road, Inchyra Road and the streets off them, with 16 schools nearby. That is where the manoeuvres go, and where parked cars narrow the road. The pass rate here is close to the national average, which is a fair description of the place: nothing exotic, just a lot of junctions done properly one after another.

Test day at Grangemouth
The centre is Unit 7 in Grangemouth Business Centre at 3 Roseland Hall. Like most business-centre units it is a door among other doors rather than a building with a sign at the roadside, so look for the unit number and allow a few minutes to find it. Parking on sites like this is usually available beside the building and that is typical here, although nothing specific is published for candidates.
There is no station in Grangemouth. The nearest is Polmont, a little over two miles away, so almost everyone arrives by car or gets a lift.
GOV.UK lists car tests, motorcycle module 2 and ADI part 2 and part 3 at this centre, which means instructor tests share the site. It publishes no line about wheelchair access here, so ring DVSA in advance if you need arrangements made.
The thing to plan around is the wait, which ran past twenty weeks this summer and has grown over the year. A Grangemouth date is not easily replaced. Inside, the routine is the usual one: licence, declaration, eyesight check, then out to the car.
