Key facts
- Airdrie's pass rate was 47.4% in 2025/26 from 4,599 tests, 2.6 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 56 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 1.9 points below it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 5.2 points, from 52.6% to 47.4%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 20.9 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 18.4 weeks, so waits have grown by about 2.5 weeks.
- 40.8% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
The wait is the first thing to deal with at Airdrie. Candidates tested here in the most recent month of figures had waited about twenty-one weeks since booking, roughly nine weeks longer than the national median, and the first date with a reasonable share of free slots was further out still. Book early and treat a cancellation as luck rather than a plan. The test itself is a town test and almost nothing else: 91 per cent of the distance on the five practice loops on this page is at 30 mph. Gartlea Road, High Street, Alexander Street and Stirling Street are the loop roads you will see most of, the loops themselves are short, and there are ten mini-roundabouts packed into them. Scotland has not adopted the 20 mph default, so the signs read as they always did.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Airdrie is a 30 mph test. Ninety-one per cent of the distance on the practice loops on this page sits at that limit, with a small share at 20 and almost nothing above. There is no dual carriageway, no level crossing and no motorway work. Everything that gets marked here happens in town, at town speeds, with people and parked cars close by.
Mini-roundabouts are the signature. There are ten of them on the loops, alongside conventional roundabouts on Weavers Road, Gartlea Road, Graham Street, Alexander Street, Martyn Street, Park Street and Broomknoll Street among others. Minis punish a late decision more than anything else on the route: the exit has to be chosen and signalled on the approach, and the painted circle has to be driven round, not over. One loop takes in ten roundabouts in under eleven kilometres, so there is no settling-in period between them.
Pedestrian crossings are the other pressure. The loops carry 21 signalled crossings against only eight sets of traffic signals, which means most of the stopping you do is for people rather than for junctions. Add 19 give-way junctions and there is very little of the route where you are not reading and deciding.
The loops themselves are short, between about seven and eleven kilometres. That density is deliberate on a town route and it is why Airdrie feels busier than its distances suggest.
Manoeuvres are asked for on the quieter residential streets off the main roads, where there is kerb to work with.

Test day at Airdrie
The centre is at 7 Aitchison Street, off Sword Street, in the middle of Airdrie rather than on an estate at the edge of it. That is good for getting there and less good for parking.
DVSA publishes that you can access this centre if you use a wheelchair. It publishes nothing about candidate parking, and a town-centre address of this kind rarely has much of its own. Assume you will be leaving the car on a nearby street and walking back, which is typical rather than confirmed, and add ten minutes for it.
Airdrie runs car tests and ADI part 3. There are no motorcycle tests here. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled through GOV.UK only.
Because the address is central, the drive starts in traffic rather than easing out of a quiet estate. Expect a move-off into live traffic within the first minute, and a crossing or a set of signals not long after. Most instructors use the half hour before a slot to settle a candidate on the surrounding streets, and given how long a date takes to come round here, that warm-up is worth having.
