Key facts
- Stirling's pass rate was 43% in 2025/26 from 2,747 tests, 7 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 61 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 6.3 points below it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 7.5 points, from 50.5% to 43%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 12.5 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 10.1 weeks, so waits have grown by about 2.4 weeks.
- 30.9% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Stirling is a roundabout test, and then another roundabout. Thirty-three mini-roundabouts are tagged within two and a half kilometres of the centre, alongside named roundabouts at Ballengeich, Castleview, Manor Powis, Skeoch, Millhall and Greencornhills. One of the practice loops on this page takes in fifteen roundabout entries in under thirteen kilometres. The centre is in the Government Buildings on St Ninians Road, about a kilometre from the station. 42 per cent of the area is 20 mph, and Scotland signs each of those limits individually rather than applying a default. The pass rate here is well below the national average and has fallen since 2021, which makes Stirling one of the harder centres in the country on the current figures.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Roundabouts define this test and they come in two kinds. The conventional ones, at Ballengeich, Castleview, Manor Powis, Skeoch, Millhall and Greencornhills, sit on the classified roads around the town and carry real traffic at real speed. The mini-roundabouts, thirty-three of them tagged in the area, sit inside the streets. The rules are the same but the errors differ. On the big ones it is lane discipline and late signalling. On the small ones it is failing to give way to the right, and cutting across the painted circle instead of going round it.
The practice loops on this page range from four to fifteen roundabout entries each over seven to thirteen kilometres. The busiest of them barely gives you a straight section between one and the next, which is the real difficulty: there is no time to reset after a mistake before the next decision arrives.
The speed profile is split almost evenly between the two lower limits, at 42 and 47 per cent of the tagged roads. Because Scotland has no blanket 20 mph default, every one of those 20 sections is signed at its start and there is no fallback if you miss the sign. Around 7 per cent of the area is 60 mph and there is dual carriageway within it, so a route can go from a signed 20 to national speed limit and back inside a few minutes.
Fifteen schools sit within the radius, and one level crossing. Manoeuvres are usually asked for on the residential roads off Cultenhove Road, Linden Avenue and Borrowmeadow Road, where the kerbs are straight.

Test day at Stirling
The centre is in the Government Buildings at 2 St Ninians Road. It is a shared government block rather than a purpose-built DVSA unit, so look for the DVSA signage inside rather than a driving-test frontage on the street.
GOV.UK publishes that you can access this centre if you use a wheelchair. Car tests and motorcycle module 2 on the road are held here.
Stirling station is about a kilometre away, which is walkable, though most candidates arrive with an instructor. Parking is not published, and a town-centre government site is the kind of place where candidate parking is limited. Assume a nearby street or car park rather than a bay at the door. That is typical for this kind of site rather than something DVSA states.
Arrive about ten minutes before the slot. The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and asks you to sign the declaration that the car is insured. The eyesight check is done outside.
Availability is the thing to plan around. The median wait was over twelve weeks in the most recent figures, and the first week with a reasonable share of free slots was about twenty-four weeks ahead. If you already hold a date, think hard before moving it. Booking, moving and cancelling is only through GOV.UK.
