Key facts
- Doncaster's pass rate was 53.2% in 2025/26 from 7,334 tests, 3.2 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 10 of 27 centres in Yorkshire and The Humber (Yorkshire and The Humber average 50.4%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 2.8 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 10.1 points, from 43.1% to 53.2%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 17 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 19.9 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 2.9 weeks.
- 47.2% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Doncaster is a 40 mph test. More than half the roads tagged within a mile and a half of the centre carry a 40 limit and another one in seven is at 60, with only about a third down at 20 or 30. That is close to the reverse of most town centres, and it changes the fault you are most likely to collect. Not creeping over a limit, but sitting at 30 on a 40 road and being marked for undue hesitation.
The A18 and the A630 supply the fast driving, along with a stretch of dual carriageway. The pass rate has risen sharply since 2021 and now sits above the average for Yorkshire and The Humber, though the wait is longer than the national median.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Leger Way and Thorne Road carry most of the driving. Three of the five practice loops on this page run a stretch of Leger Way and the other two use Thorne Road. Both are the kind of road where the limit is higher than a learner expects and the traffic behind you moves accordingly.
Roundabouts come thick. The longest loop, 12.1 km, has thirteen roundabout entries on it and the shortest still has seven. Nine mini-roundabouts and twenty-two sets of signals sit within a mile and a half of the centre, so the mix is wide entries and painted circles rather than one or the other.
Worth practising specifically before a Doncaster test:
- Holding 40 on a 40 road with houses on both sides, which feels a good deal faster than it is.
- Joining and leaving dual carriageway, matching the speed already on it and shedding that speed again in the length of the slip.
- Roundabouts taken from the correct approach lane on a road where nobody behind you is going slowly.
- The drop back from 40 to 30 on the way into the built-up streets, which happens at a sign and not where the houses start.
Manoeuvres are usually set on the quieter residential roads off the main routes, where the kerbs are straight and there are enough parked cars to make a pull-up on the right worth doing properly. Two level crossings sit in the area the loops cover, and twenty-one schools, so a mid-afternoon slot brings the school run with it.

Test day at Doncaster
The centre is at Heather Court on Shaw Wood Business Park, off Shaw Wood Way. The address has three parts and the unit numbers matter: 10 and 11. On a business park the DVSA sign is small and every block looks like the last one, so give yourself a minute to find it.
Kirk Sandall station is about two and a half kilometres away, which is too far to be convenient on foot. Nearly everyone arrives by car.
DVSA publishes that you can access this test centre if you use a wheelchair. It publishes nothing about candidate parking or the waiting room. Units of this kind usually have marked bays somewhere on the estate rather than at the door, so allow time to park and walk back. That is typical, not confirmed for Heather Court.
Car tests only are held here. There are no motorcycle tests and no ADI tests at Doncaster. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled through GOV.UK and nowhere else.
Ten minutes before your slot is early enough. The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and asks you to sign the declaration confirming the car is insured for the test. The eyesight check is done outside on the estate before you get in.

What examiners mark most often
DVSA does not publish faults by centre, but it does publish them nationally. These collected the most marks across every car test in Great Britain in 2025/26, and they are the same ones you will be marked on at Doncaster.
