Key facts
- Scunthorpe's pass rate was 45.4% in 2025/26 from 6,103 tests, 4.6 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 22 of 27 centres in Yorkshire and The Humber (Yorkshire and The Humber average 50.4%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 5 points below it.
- The rate has been stable since 2021/22, moving between 40.5% (2023/24) and 47.2% (2021/22).
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 4 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 13.4 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 9.4 weeks.
- 22.7% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Scunthorpe has no 20 mph roads in its profile at all. Half of what is mapped within two and a half kilometres of the centre on Onward Way is 40 mph, a third is 30 and a sixth is 50, which is a notably fast local road profile for a test centre. There is also a great deal of railway here. Thirty-five level crossings lie inside that radius, the legacy of a steel town where the works lines cross the roads rather than passing under them. Both facts point the same way. Scunthorpe is a harder test than most, its pass rate sits below the regional average, and the errors it produces are speed errors and crossing errors rather than town-centre ones.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Warren Road, Brigg Road and Winterton Road carry most of the driving, and they are faster roads than a learner usually meets on a test. Half of what is mapped within two and a half kilometres of the centre is 40 mph and about a sixth is 50, with dual carriageway on the A1029 and Phoenix Parkway. There is no 20 mph zone in the profile at all, so the slow estate half of the test that most centres provide is largely missing here.
What that means in practice:
- Speed on a 40 that runs through a built-up stretch, where the temptation is to drive it like a 30 and hold up everything behind you.
- Joining and leaving dual carriageway, matching the speed of what is already there and losing it again within the length of the slip.
- Level crossings, of which thirty-five sit inside the area. Approach expecting to stop, and never move on until the far side is clear.
- Roundabouts in sequence, on Rowland Road, Berkeley Roundabout, Foxhills Roundabout, Skippingdale Roundabout and Queensway Roundabout, taken from the correct approach lane and held round to the exit.
Normanby Road, Frodingham Road and Glebe Road are the older, tighter roads nearer the town, and they supply the parked cars and close side turnings that the rest of the area does not. Manoeuvres are usually set on the quieter streets around Colin Road and Old Crosby, where kerbs are straight and there is parking on one side.
The loops on this page run from eight and a half to twelve kilometres, and Dawes Lane and Mannaberg Way appear on most of them.

Test day at Scunthorpe
The centre is on Onward Way, off Warren Road. It runs motorcycle module 1, the off-road manoeuvring test, as well as module 2 on the road, so there is a manoeuvring area on site that will often be in use by riders. It is not spare parking, and it is not somewhere to try a bay park before you go in. Car tests and both ADI parts are also taken here.
DVSA publishes nothing about wheelchair access, a waiting room or toilets at Scunthorpe. That is an absence of information rather than an absence of facilities, but if it matters to you, ring the booking line before the day.
Parking is not published either. A site of this kind usually has bays for candidates, which is typical rather than promised, so allow a couple of minutes to find one.
Scunthorpe station is about a mile away, far enough that most candidates arrive with an instructor rather than on foot. The wait for a test here has come down sharply over the past year, from around four months to about a month, so a date is a good deal easier to get than it was. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled through GOV.UK only.
