Key facts

  • Worksop's pass rate was 55.2% in 2025/26 from 5,975 tests, 5.2 points above the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 8 of 20 centres in East Midlands (East Midlands average 50.8%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 4.4 points above it.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 4.8 points, from 60% to 55.2%.
  • Male candidates passed at 57.1% and female candidates at 53.1%, a gap of 4 points.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 11 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 22.4 weeks ahead.
  • A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 17.1 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 6.1 weeks.

There is not a single 20 mph road tagged around the Worksop centre. That makes it close to the opposite of a town test. The centre is at Shireoaks, a village a couple of miles west of Worksop itself, on the small business site at The Point on Coach Road. Sixty-three per cent of the roads nearby are 30 mph, nine per cent are 60 and seven per cent are 70, and there are only twenty sets of traffic signals in the whole area. What you get is open road: Shireoaks Common, Shireoaks Road and the lanes out towards the county boundary, with one named roundabout and four mini-roundabouts in range. The pass rate sits above the East Midlands average, though it has slipped since 2021.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

This is a rural test and the numbers say so plainly. Not one road tagged within two and a half kilometres of the centre carries a 20 mph limit. Sixty-three per cent are 30, nineteen per cent are 40, nine per cent are 60 and seven per cent are 70. Only twenty sets of traffic signals sit in the whole area, and there is a single named roundabout, at Sandy Lane, with four mini-roundabouts behind it.

What that means in practice is that the examiner is not watching you handle a queue. They are watching you read a road whose end you cannot see. Shireoaks Common carries the main stretch on four of the five practice loops on this page, and the loops run long, between 8.7 and 12 km, with only six to eight right turns each. Long stretches with little to do are where speed drifts and observation quietly stops.

So the things to practise here are national speed limit driving on a road with bends and hedges, and the overtaking decision, or more often the decision not to overtake, behind a tractor or a lorry on single carriageway. There is dual carriageway in range as well, so joining and leaving at speed features too.

Two level crossings sit in the area, and there are only eleven schools, so the low-limit sections that give a candidate a breather at most centres are simply not here.

Manoeuvres go on the estate roads and the quieter village streets, Gateford Road, Claylands Avenue, Dormer Drive and the closes off them, where there is room and very little passing traffic.

Test day at Worksop

The centre is Unit 4 at The Point on Coach Road in Shireoaks, a small business site rather than a town-centre office. Shireoaks is a village outside Worksop, so directions aimed at the town will take you past it. Aim for the village, then the unit number.

Car tests are conducted here along with ADI part 2 and part 3. Nothing is published about wheelchair access or other arrangements, so ring the centre before the day if you need step-free entry confirmed.

Shireoaks station is six hundred metres away, which is unusually close for a centre out of town, so arriving by train is realistic here.

Parking is not published. Small business units of this kind normally have bays on site shared with the neighbouring occupiers, which is typical rather than certain, though a village site is generally under less pressure than a town centre one. Arrive with a few minutes in hand anyway.

The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and asks you to sign the declaration that the car is insured for the test. The eyesight check is done outside on the estate.

The roads open up quickly here, so a 60 limit can arrive earlier in the drive than it would at a town centre. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK.
