Key facts

  • Crawley's pass rate was 42.7% in 2025/26 from 11,305 tests, 7.3 points below the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 28 of 30 centres in South East (South East average 52.9%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 10.2 points below it.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 3.6 points, from 39.1% to 42.7%.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 10.4 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
  • A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 8.3 weeks, so waits have grown by about 2.1 weeks.
  • 29.6% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

Crawley tests from The Pavillions at Pease Pottage, on Brighton Road at the southern edge of the town rather than inside it. That placing shapes the test. Three of the five practice loops on this page take in ten or more roundabouts, and the busiest has twelve in under seven miles. Broadfield, Southgate, Bewbush Manor and Breezehurst are the named ones, and Crawley's neighbourhoods were laid out around them, so the roundabout is the default junction here in the way the crossroads is elsewhere. Nearly seven in ten roads tagged around the centre are 30 mph. The pass rate has climbed since 2021 but still sits well below the South East average, and the region has several centres inside an hour that pass a great deal more.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

The roundabouts are the whole story at Crawley, and they are not all of one kind. Broadfield, Southgate, Bewbush Manor and Breezehurst are large and multi-lane, built to keep new town traffic moving. Nine mini-roundabouts sit within the same area and ask for the opposite: slow, tight, and easily misread as an ordinary give-way.

Getting the lane right on the approach matters more here than at most centres. On a big Crawley roundabout the exit you want can be two lanes across, and a lane taken late is a lane taken badly. Practise choosing it early, holding it round, and signalling off without drifting into the lane beside you.

Away from the roundabouts the driving is slower. Roughly seven in ten roads tagged around the centre are 30 mph and only a small share are 20, so the estates off Creasys Drive, Bellevue Farm Road and Cordingley Drive are ordinary 30 mph streets rather than calmed zones. Fourteen schools sit inside the same radius, which is few for a town of this size. Only fifteen signalled junctions do, which means traffic lights are a much smaller part of this test than the roundabouts are.

The loops also reach Horsham Road, Tollgate Hill and Parish Lane, where the limit rises and the sightlines lengthen. About one road in five in the area is tagged at 50 mph or above. That is where speed control gets tested in both directions: enough of it on the open stretch, and off it again in time for the next roundabout.

Test day at Crawley

The address is Unit 2, The Pavillions, Brighton Road, Pease Pottage. It is a small business unit south of Crawley proper, and it is not somewhere you pass by accident, so use the postcode rather than the town name and find the unit before your slot rather than on the way to it.

DVSA runs car tests and ADI part 3 here and nothing else, which makes it a quieter site than a multi-purpose centre. Nothing is published about wheelchair access or step-free entry, so ring ahead if you need either. Parking and a waiting room are not published either. A unit of this size usually has a handful of candidate spaces and somewhere to sit, but that is what is typical for the type, not what the record confirms.

Most candidates arrive by car with an instructor rather than by train, given where the centre sits relative to the town.

Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK. Waits here run at a little over ten weeks, shorter than at Burgess Hill, which is the nearest alternative at about fifteen kilometres and passes only a few points more.
