Key facts

  • Glasgow's pass rate was 44.3% in 2025/26 from 6,170 tests, 5.7 points below the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 60 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 5 points below it.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 2.5 points, from 41.8% to 44.3%.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 21.3 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
  • 59.3% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

The wait is the first thing to plan around at Anniesland. Candidates who took a test in July 2026 had waited a median of 21.3 weeks since booking, against a national median of about twelve, and the first week with much free choice in it was 24 weeks out. Book early and treat the slot as valuable.

The driving is city driving. Ninety-five signalled junctions are mapped within 2.5 km of the centre, and Great Western Road, Bearsden Road and Anniesland Road carry heavy, multi-lane traffic through the middle of them. Scotland has not adopted a blanket 20 mph default, so limits here are mixed rather than uniform: about a third of the roads mapped nearby are 20 and most of the rest are 30. Knowing which one you are on matters more than it would further south.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

Signals dominate. Ninety-five signalled junctions sit within 2.5 km of the centre, most of them strung along Great Western Road and Bearsden Road, and the practice loops on this page spend much of their length on that kind of road. Lane choice, keeping junctions clear and the discipline of stopping on amber are what get marked here, far more than roundabout technique.

Roundabouts barely feature. Three of the five loops have none at all and the other two have one each. Twenty-seven mini-roundabouts are mapped in the wider area, along with named roundabouts at Thornwood, Cleveden Road, Skaethorn Road and Craggan Drive, but they are not the shape of most tests. Right turns are. One loop asks for fifteen right turns in under eleven kilometres, and a right turn across two lanes of Great Western Road is a different job from a right turn in an estate.

The residential half is Knightswood Road, Westland Drive, Danes Drive and the streets around Archerhill Road, where the 20 limits are and where manoeuvres are usually set. Southbrae Drive and Cowdenhill Road appear on the loops as well. Twenty-nine schools are mapped in the area, so a mid-afternoon test on these streets is a different test from a mid-morning one. Bearsden Road and Temple Road take the routes north towards Dalsholm Road, where the limit rises and the traffic thins.

Test day at Glasgow

The centre is at 351 Anniesland Road, a little under a kilometre from Anniesland station, which makes the train a realistic way to arrive.

GOV.UK does not publish a wheelchair access line for this centre. What it does say is that DVSA will make arrangements for you if you have a disability, which is not the same thing, so ring the booking line and ask about the building itself before the day. Parking and the waiting room are not published either. Plan for the usual arrangement at a centre on a main road: a drop at the door and a space found on a side street.

The centre runs car tests and ADI parts 2 and 3. There are no motorcycle, lorry or bus tests here. Booking, moving and cancelling go through GOV.UK only. Arrive about ten minutes before the slot, with your licence and a car insured for the test; you will be asked to sign a declaration confirming it. The eyesight check is done outside before you get in, and the drive begins with a move-off onto Anniesland Road, which is busy enough that the first observation of the test is also one of the hardest.

Not published. DVSA says it will make arrangements for candidates with a disability, which is not the same as step-free access. Ring DVSA before the day rather than assuming.
