Key facts
- Wednesbury's pass rate was 35% in 2025/26 from 7,508 tests, 15 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 25 of 26 centres in West Midlands (West Midlands average 46.2%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 11.2 points below it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 4.5 points, from 39.5% to 35%.
- Male candidates passed at 37.9% and female candidates at 32.2%, a gap of 5.7 points.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 10.3 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 22.7 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 12.4 weeks.
Wednesbury has the second-lowest pass rate of the 302 test centres in Great Britain, and it is worth knowing what that reflects. The centre sits on Knowles Street in the middle of the Black Country road network, where twelve A and B routes cross within two and a half kilometres of the door and the Black Country New Road runs dual carriageway alongside. Roundabouts come thick. One of the practice loops on this page takes in eleven of them in six miles, and none of the five has fewer than five. At the same time, forty-eight per cent of the roads nearby are 20 mph, so the test swings between trunk road junctions and slow terraced streets. Waits, at least, have come down sharply in a year.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Wednesbury sits inside one of the densest road networks in the country and the test shows it. Twelve A and B routes cross the area within two and a half kilometres, the Black Country New Road runs dual carriageway through it, and eight named roundabouts and junctions carry the traffic between them: Wednesbury Interchange, Moxley Junction, Keyway Junction and Great Bridge Roundabout among them. Twenty-seven mini-roundabouts fill the gaps. The practice loops on this page take in between five and eleven roundabouts each, so there is no quiet version of this route.
Underneath that network is the older town. Dudley Street, Bridge Street, Walsall Street and Trouse Lane are narrow, terraced and heavily parked, and forty-eight per cent of the roads tagged nearby are 20 mph. The test alternates between trunk road speed and a slow street with cars on both sides, sometimes inside the same minute.
Worth practising specifically before a test here:
- Picking the approach lane for a multi-lane roundabout early, then holding it all the way round to the exit.
- Joining and leaving a dual carriageway, matching the speed already on it and shedding it again in the length of the slip.
- Coming down from 40 or 50 into a 20 at the sign rather than after it.
- Emerging right onto a busy main road from a narrow side street, where the gap is short and parked cars take part of the view.
Fifty-three schools sit in the area, which accounts for much of the low limits, and two level crossings are in range. Manoeuvres go on the quieter streets around Myvod Road and Woden Road South.

Test day at Wednesbury
The centre is on Knowles Street, a side street near the town centre. It is a small unit rather than a landmark building, so find the street first and the number second.
DVSA publishes that you can access this centre if you use a wheelchair. Car tests and ADI part 3 tests are conducted here, and no motorcycle tests.
Parking is not published. Small units on residential side streets rarely have much of their own, and what is typical is that instructors set candidates down at the door and park in the surrounding streets. Take that as typical rather than confirmed, and leave yourself a few minutes if you are driving in.
Bescot Stadium station is about a mile and a half away, so coming by train means a walk or a short taxi ride at the other end. Most candidates arrive with an instructor.
Get there around ten minutes early. The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and asks you to sign the declaration that the car is insured for the test, then does the eyesight check outside on the street.
Waiting times here have improved a great deal. Candidates tested in the summer had waited about ten weeks, against more than twenty a year before. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK.
