Key facts
- Callander's pass rate was 49.9% in 2025/26 from 335 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 50 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the lower pass rates in the region.
- The rate has been stable since 2019/20, moving between 47.4% (2024/25) and 50.4% (2023/24).
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 26.9 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 15.6 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 13 weeks, so waits have grown by about 13.9 weeks.
- 70.8% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
The wait at Callander has grown by 16.3 weeks in a single year, from 10.6 to 26.9 — the sharpest increase of any centre in Scotland. If you are learning here, book long before you feel ready. The test itself is slow: 65 per cent of the distance on the practice loops on this page is at 20 mph, through a town that fills with visitors in summer, with 18 per cent at 60 on the roads out. There is not one set of traffic signals on the whole set and only a single give-way junction, so almost everything is judged rather than told. It passes 49.9 per cent, exactly the national average.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Sixty-five per cent of the distance is at 20 mph. That single figure describes most of a Callander test: a long main street with parked cars down both sides, pedestrians crossing between them, coaches and camper vans stopping where they should not, and a limit low enough that holding it steadily takes real attention. Ten per cent is at 30, 4 per cent at 40, and 18 per cent at 60 on the roads out towards Leny and Invertrossachs.
There is no junction furniture to speak of. No traffic signals anywhere on the practice loops on this page, no named roundabout, one give-way junction, two mini-roundabouts, four signalled crossings and one zebra across 47.7 kilometres. Nothing tells you when to go, and nothing protects you when you do.
The turning is modest by comparison — between five and eight right turns a loop — so the marks here do not come from junction volume. They come from the two things a tourist town does to you: emerging past parked vehicles where your view is short, and meeting something wide coming the other way on a road with no room for both.
Main Street, Bridge Street, Bracklinn Road, Leny Road, Leny Feus, Station Road, Stirling Road, Invertrossachs Road and the Aveland roads carry the whole set. There are only 2 schools in the area, no A-road on the loops, no dual carriageway and no level crossings.

Test day at Callander
The centre is at the Callander Youth Hostel, 6 Bridgend, FK17 8AG, just over the bridge from the main street. It is a hostel with its own guests coming and going, so it does not look like a test centre and the parking is not yours by right.
Car tests are conducted here, along with ADI part 3. No station is close enough to be useful, so everyone arrives by car or with an instructor.
Parking is not published for this site. Bridgend is narrow and Callander is busy with visitors for much of the year; leave the car somewhere sensible on a nearby street rather than circling for a space by the door.
The wait was a median of 26.9 weeks for tests taken in July 2026, more than double the national 11.9, and it has grown by 16.3 weeks in a year — the July 2025 median was 10.6. The first week with a tenth of its slots still free was 13.5 weeks ahead, which is half the median, so a cancellation is worth watching for.
Stirling is 22.5 kilometres away, was waiting 12.5 weeks and passes 43 per cent. Crieff passes 66.1 per cent but was waiting 31.4 weeks. Neither is an easy swap, which is why booking early matters more here than most places. Booking and cancelling is on GOV.UK only.
