Steeton's test centre is on Station Road in the village, four hundred metres from Steeton and Silsden station, which makes it one of the easier centres in Yorkshire to reach without a car. It is also a bigger site than the village suggests. As well as car tests it runs motorcycle modules 1 and 2, lorry and bus tests, and ADI part 3. The road profile looks straightforward, with 72 per cent of the area at 30 mph, but the detail matters. Three level crossings sit within two and a half kilometres, and eleven schools. The practice loops on this page run out along Skipton Road and Keighley Road and come back through the older streets. The pass rate is a little above the national average and has been steady for years.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Nearly three quarters of the roads tagged within two and a half kilometres of the centre are 30 mph. Only 12 per cent are 20 and there is no 40 at all, so the pattern is a long run at 30 broken by short 20 sections and then, towards the edges, a jump straight to 60. That jump is the one to prepare for. There is no intermediate limit to ease you into it, so the sign changes and the speed has to change with it, in both directions.
Junctions here are give-way rather than roundabout. Only two mini-roundabouts and five sets of traffic signals are tagged in the area. The practice loops on this page take in two or three roundabout entries each and then a great many ordinary turns, up to thirteen left turns on one loop. Turning left out of a side road onto a busy 30 sounds like the easy manoeuvre. Done thirteen times in ten kilometres, it is where small observation faults accumulate into a serious one.
Three level crossings sit inside the same radius. If one comes up on your route, approach at a speed that lets you stop, and never move onto it without a clear exit on the far side.
Skipton Road and Keighley Road carry the through traffic and the faster driving. Mill Lane, Woodside Road and Belton Road are the sort of residential streets where manoeuvres are usually asked for. Eleven schools in the area make an afternoon slot in term time noticeably busier than a mid-morning one.

Test day at Steeton
The centre is on Station Road in Steeton, a short walk from Steeton and Silsden station. The range of tests held here is wide: car, motorcycle module 1 off-road and module 2 on-road, lorry and bus, and ADI part 3. That means the site can be busy with vehicles a good deal larger than yours when you arrive, so keep to the marked areas and do not assume the space nearest the door is for cars.
On access, GOV.UK publishes only that DVSA will make arrangements for candidates with a disability. It does not publish whether the centre is step-free. If you need to know, ring DVSA before the day.
Parking is not published. Sites of this size usually have candidate bays plus space on nearby streets, which is typical rather than confirmed.
Arrive around ten minutes early. The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and has you sign the declaration that the car is insured for the test. The eyesight check is done outside. The first minute of the drive is on Station Road itself, which the loops use more than any other street, so the move-off needs a proper look rather than a glance.
Booking, moving and cancelling a test is done through GOV.UK only.
