Horsforth sits on the north-western edge of Leeds, and the test here is shaped by two things that do not sit easily together: the outer ring road and a set of old village lanes nobody ever widened. The centre is a room inside an office block on Low Lane with a roundabout at the end of the road, so the first junction of the test is often a roundabout taken cold, before you have settled into the car. The practice loops on this page show the same pattern everywhere. Right turns outnumber left turns by almost two to one, and every loop spends time on Low Lane, Otley Old Road or the dual carriageway stretch of the ring road. Candidates come from Cookridge, Rawdon, Yeadon and Adel as well as Horsforth itself.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Two roads do most of the work at Horsforth. Low Lane runs past the door and appears on every one of the practice loops on this page. The ring road at West Park supplies the fast, multi-lane driving. Between them they cover the whole range an examiner needs to see, which is why the loops here are six to eight miles rather than longer.
The roundabouts are the thing to prepare. Fifteen of them appear across the five loops, so on the busier ones you can meet several in quick succession before the test has properly settled. Broadway, Lawnswood and the roundabouts off Broadlea Hill are the named ones in this area. The ring road roundabouts are the awkward ones: several lanes, faster traffic and no room for a late change of mind about which lane you wanted. Choose the lane on the approach rather than at the give-way line.
Low Lane itself is the opposite problem. It bends, it has parked cars along parts of it, and in places oncoming traffic has to be negotiated at walking pace. Meeting traffic, and deciding early whether to hold back or press on, produces more faults here than anything else on the route.
The estates supply the manoeuvres. Iveson Drive, Tinshill Lane, Spen Lane and the roads off Long Row are quiet, wide enough to be fair and close enough to reach in a few minutes. If you practise one sequence before a Horsforth test, make it coming off the ring road into a built-up limit and turning right almost immediately, because the loops use that combination again and again.

Test day at Horsforth
The centre is a room in Woodside House at 261 Low Lane, an office block with several tenants, so look for the building number rather than a sign at the kerb. Candidate parking is available on site, the entrance has ramp access, and there are male, female and accessible toilets.
Horsforth station is a little over half a mile away and buses run along Low Lane, so arriving without a car works if you allow extra time. Most candidates are dropped at the door by their instructor and picked up in the same place.
Waits here have shortened a lot over the past year and plenty of slots go unbooked, so a cancellation is worth watching for. The examiner calls you by name from the waiting area, checks your licence and asks you to sign the insurance declaration before you walk out to the car. The eyesight check is done outside on Low Lane, reading a plate on a parked car. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK. Alongside car tests the centre runs motorcycle module 2 and ADI parts 2 and 3. The drive then starts on Low Lane, with the roundabout at the end of the road arriving almost immediately.
