Key facts

  • Warwick's pass rate was 48.5% in 2025/26 from 15,070 tests, 1.5 points below the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 15 of 26 centres in West Midlands (West Midlands average 46.2%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 2.3 points above it.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 7.4 points, from 55.9% to 48.5%.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 18 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
  • A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 6.7 weeks, so waits have grown by about 11.3 weeks.
  • 42.1% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

Warwick is a roundabout test. Not mini-roundabouts, of which there are barely any near the centre, but full-sized islands with lane markings and two or three lanes on the approach. Stanks Island, Blacklow and the Heathcote junctions all sit within a few minutes of Wedgnock Lane, and a candidate who cannot pick a lane early will meet one of them.

The centre serves a wide area, from the town itself out to Leamington, Kenilworth and the villages, and it puts through around 15,000 tests a year. Its pass rate is a little under the national figure but comfortably above the West Midlands average, which is dragged down by Coventry next door. The number to watch is the trend: Warwick has lost more than seven points since 2021, one of the steeper falls anywhere.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

Two thirds of the roads around the centre are 30 mph and about a fifth are 20, so most of a Warwick test is spent at town speeds. What makes it hard is not the limit but the density of junctions. There are 113 sets of traffic signals within two and a half kilometres of Wedgnock Lane, a high count for a town this size, and many sit on the approaches to roundabouts rather than at simple crossroads. Sitting in the wrong lane at a green light is the fault this produces.

The named islands do most of the sorting. Stanks Island, on the Birmingham Road side, is multi-lane and busy with through traffic. Blacklow sits on the same corridor and catches candidates who signal late. Heathcote, out towards Leamington, is bigger again. On all of them the work happens before you arrive: read the sign, choose the lane, and hold it. Changing lane on the island itself is where most of the marks go.

Beyond the roundabouts, routes split between the older residential streets in Warwick, which are narrow and lined with parked cars, and faster roads out towards the villages where the limit rises and the bends tighten. The practice loops on this page reflect that mix. Manoeuvres are usually asked for on the quieter estate roads rather than anywhere near the main junctions, and with 24 schools inside the area, a mid-afternoon slot can mean a pull-up on the right opposite a school gate.

One practical point. The wait here has grown to around eighteen weeks, from roughly seven a year earlier, while Rugby and Coventry are both quicker to get into.

Test day at Warwick

Wedgnock House is an office building on the north-western edge of Warwick, and the test centre occupies the ground floor. It is reached from Wedgnock Lane by way of Rothwell Road, in among industrial units and other offices rather than shops, so there is nothing obvious from the road telling you a driving test happens here. Look for the building name.

Parking is the thing to plan for. The car park is small and shared with the neighbouring offices, and the bays are tight. Candidates are asked not to turn up in it more than about seven minutes before the appointment, which keeps spaces free for the examiners bringing cars back in. That is a narrow window, so arrive in the area early and wait somewhere else rather than circling the car park. Toilets and step-free access into the ground floor are both there.

The centre runs car tests, motorcycle module 2 and ADI part 3, so the waiting room is not only learner drivers. Warwick Parkway station is about 1.4 kilometres away, a walk of twenty minutes or so, and the last stretch is not a pleasant one on foot. Booking and rescheduling go through GOV.UK only.
