The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
The speed spread is the defining feature. Twenty-eight per cent of the distance is at 40 mph, twenty-two per cent at 20, twenty-one at 30, fifteen at 70, twelve at 50 and three at 60. No single limit dominates, so you are changing speed constantly — and there is no dual carriageway on the set, which means the 70 is single-carriageway road you have to judge for yourself.
Roundabouts do most of the joining. Eight are named — Dunkeld Road, Crieff Road, Cross Tay Link Road, Bertha Park Link Road, New Kingsway, Auld Bond Road, The Triangle and Gowans Terrace — with eight mini-roundabouts alongside, and each of the five practice loops on this page carries between four and twelve of them. One loop takes in twelve roundabouts in thirteen kilometres and asks for only three right turns in the whole distance.
Forty give-way junctions sit across the set, which is a high count for fifty kilometres. There are thirteen sets of traffic signals, sixteen signalled crossings and three zebras, with nine pieces of traffic calming.
Dunkeld Road, Bute Drive, Auld Bond Road, Cross Tay Link Road, Arran Road, Primrose Crescent, Gowans Terrace, Crieff Road, Feus Road, Bertha Park Link Road, New Kingsway and Gillespie Place carry the driving. No A-roads appear on the loops, there are no level crossings, and seventeen schools sit inside the area.

Test day at Perth
The centre is on Arran Road, on the North Muirton Industrial Estate, PH1 3DZ. Car tests run from here, and so do lorry and bus tests. DVSA says it will make arrangements at this test centre for candidates with a disability, so ask when you book rather than on the day.
Perth station is 3.1 kilometres away, so most people arrive by car.
Nothing is published about parking, though an industrial estate usually means space on the surrounding roads.
The wait was a median of 12.9 weeks for tests taken in July 2026, close to the national 11.9. The first week with a tenth of its appointments still free was twenty-four weeks out.
The alternatives are all a drive. Dundee is twenty-eight kilometres away, passes 57.3 per cent against Perth's 48.8, and was waiting 8.8 weeks — better on both counts, and the comparison worth making. Crieff passes 66.1 per cent but was waiting 31.4 weeks; Aberfeldy 68.5 per cent at twenty weeks and thirty-four kilometres.
One local pattern: men passed at 53.7 per cent and women at 43.8, a gap of 9.9 points that is wider than at most centres. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK.
