  • Paisley's pass rate was 48.6% in 2025/26 from 7,912 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 54 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the lower pass rates in the region.

  • 39.1% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

Paisley is a roundabout centre. The five practice loops on this page take in between twelve and 17 roundabouts each, over distances of ten to twelve kilometres. Junctions of any other kind are the exception. Linwood Road, Main Road and the estate roads around them are strung with them, and several come in series so the exit of one is the approach to the next.

Scotland has kept the 30 mph default on restricted roads, so unlike Wales this is not a 20 mph test: about seven in ten roads nearby are 30, one in ten is 40, and a handful are national speed limit. The pass rate is one of the lower ones in Scotland and has fallen since 2021.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

The roundabout count is the whole story at Paisley. The busiest of the practice loops on this page takes in 17 of them in under twelve kilometres and the quietest still has twelve. Linwood Industrial Estate and the newer housing around it were laid out with roundabouts instead of crossroads, so the junction you meet is almost always a roundabout, and it is almost always followed by another one.

That has consequences for how you drive it. There is no time to recover between junctions, so a poor exit from one becomes a poor approach to the next. Lane choice has to be made on the approach road, not on the roundabout. And because so many of these are quiet, wide and clearly sighted, the observation and the signal still have to be there when nothing is coming, which is exactly when candidates stop doing them.

The named ones include West Lane, Bridge of Weir Road, Castle Gardens, Glencoats Drive, Braeview Avenue, Hillman Crescent and Oakridge Crescent. Eight mini-roundabouts sit within a couple of miles as well, and they follow different rules from the large ones despite looking like an afterthought.

Signals are rare by comparison, with only 18 signalled junctions in the same radius. Speeds are mostly 30, with a tenth of the roads at 40 and some dual carriageway close enough that a longer drive can include a merge. Nineteen schools sit in the area, and the estate roads are busiest with lorries at the start and end of the working day rather than at school time.

Test day at Paisley

DVSA publishes unusually specific instructions for this centre, and they are worth following to the letter. The address is 1 West Avenue on Linwood Industrial Estate, and candidates and examiners park only in the designated DVSA bays. To find them, drive to the end of West Avenue and go into the Malcolm Logistics car park, then park at the far end in the numbered bays on the right.

Two more rules come from the same record. Do not arrive more than ten minutes before your appointment time, and the site is not to be used for practice, so no bay parking rehearsals in the car park before your slot. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on site.

The centre is wheelchair accessible according to DVSA, which is published rather than assumed here. It runs car tests, along with the ADI part 3 and instructor standards checks.

Johnstone station is just over a mile away, so most candidates arrive by car with an instructor. Waits were around fourteen weeks in July 2026, longer than the national median, so a slot here is worth keeping. Moving or cancelling one is done only through GOV.UK.
