Key facts
- Glasgow's pass rate was 39.9% in 2025/26 from 7,019 tests, 10.1 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 66 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 9.4 points below it.
- The rate has been stable since 2021/22, moving between 36.6% (2022/23) and 40.8% (2021/22).
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 16.3 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- 37.7% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Shieldhall tests from an industrial estate on Bogmoor Road, and the routes take their character from it. Wide roads, lorries turning into yards, and roundabouts one after another: the busiest of the practice loops on this page takes in eleven roundabout entries in 11.3 kilometres, and the quietest still has four. Renfrew Road, Hillington Road and Shieldhall Road do most of the work. This is also the hardest centre in Scotland to pass at on the published figures, 66th of the 67 in the country and 295th of 302 nationally, and the rate has been flat rather than falling for years. The loops are long for a city test, running from around nine to twelve kilometres, so concentration late in the drive is part of what is being measured.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Roundabouts are the through line. All five practice loops on this page take in at least four roundabout entries and one takes eleven, which is more than most city routes manage. Sixteen mini-roundabouts are mapped within 2.5 km as well, and named roundabouts sit at Merlinford Drive, Craggan Drive and Thornwood. Lane discipline on the approach, then holding that lane round to the exit, is the single thing most worth practising before a test here.
Four level crossings are mapped in the same radius, which is more than most centres see. Stopping properly at one, behind the line and without creeping, is a live part of the test rather than a theoretical one.
Most of the driving is at 30. Four fifths of the roads mapped nearby carry a 30 limit and only one in ten is 20, so the fault to watch is not crawling in a 20 zone but drifting a few miles an hour over on a wide, empty estate road. Shieldhall Road, Renfrew Road, Hillington Road and Meiklewood Road are the main carriers, with Dumbarton Road and South Street on the longer loops.
Seventy-nine signalled junctions sit within the radius, so the estate driving is broken up by lights on the bigger roads. Manoeuvres tend to be set on the residential streets off Langlands Road and Langlands Drive rather than in the industrial section, where yard entrances interrupt the kerb. Twenty-six schools are mapped in the area.

Test day at Glasgow
The centre is on Bogmoor Road in the Shieldhall estate, west of the city. It is an industrial address rather than a high street one and the units look alike, so allow a couple of minutes to find the right one. Hillington East station is about a kilometre away, though most candidates arrive by car with an instructor.
GOV.UK confirms that you can access this test centre if you use a wheelchair, which is published for only some centres. It also lists more test types than most: car, motorcycle modules 1 and 2, and ADI parts 2 and 3, so the site handles the off-road motorcycle element as well as car tests. Nothing is published about candidate parking or the waiting room. On an estate like this there is usually room to park, but treat that as typical rather than confirmed and give yourself the extra few minutes. Booking, moving and cancelling go through GOV.UK. The examiner checks your licence, takes the signed insurance declaration and does the eyesight check outside before you get in. The wait here has been running well above the national median and has grown by about three and a half weeks in a year, so a slot in hand is worth keeping.
