Key facts

  • Leighton Buzzard's pass rate was 49.9% in 2025/26 from 7,667 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 15 of 24 centres in East of England (East of England average 51.4%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 1.5 points below it.
  • The rate has been stable since 2021/22, moving between 46.1% (2023/24) and 51% (2024/25).
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 16.6 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
  • A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 9.1 weeks, so waits have grown by about 7.5 weeks.
  • 56.6% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

Twenty mini-roundabouts are tagged within two and a half kilometres of the Leighton Buzzard centre, and eight level crossings. That combination is unusual, and it tells you what to practise. The centre is out at Stanbridge on Leighton Road, so the routes run in along Stanbridge Road and Hockliffe Road towards the town, then loop through the estates off Fraserfields Way, Nicolson Drive and Swales Drive. There is no A-road in the area at all. More than half the roads tagged nearby are 20 mph, but the country lanes on the way out reach national speed limit, so the test swings between slow estate driving and open road with very little in between. The pass rate is close to the national average and has held steady for several years.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

Mini-roundabouts first. Twenty of them are tagged within two and a half kilometres of the centre, along with conventional roundabouts on Billington Road, Stanbridge Road, Roundel Drive, Nicolson Drive and Grovebury Road, and the practice loops on this page take in six to ten roundabouts each. Mini-roundabouts are where marks go missing. Signal for the exit, give way to the right, and go round the painted circle rather than over it, even when the road is empty and the circle is faded.

The level crossings are the second thing. Eight sit inside the same radius, which is a lot for a town this size, and they change how you read a road ahead. Approach at a speed that leaves you able to stop, never move onto a crossing without a clear exit, and if the lights start you stop, whatever the car behind is doing.

Then the estates. Well over half the roads tagged near the centre are 20 mph, and Fraserfields Way, Swales Drive, Cheshire Rise, Liddell Way and Johnson Drive are the sort of streets where a bay park or a pull-up on the right is usually asked for. Fourteen schools sit in the area, so the streets you are manoeuvring on can be busy at the wrong time of day.

There is no A-road here at all, and no dual carriageway. The faster driving comes on the lanes out towards Stanbridge and Billington, where the limit is national and the road is narrow, and where the fault is usually the opposite one: hesitating at a speed the road can carry.

Test day at Leighton Buzzard

The centre is on Leighton Road at Stanbridge, outside Leighton Buzzard itself rather than in it. That location matters on the day: there is no town-centre bus or station walk that gets you there conveniently, so nearly everyone arrives by car, usually with an instructor.

The range of tests here is wider than most. GOV.UK lists car tests, motorcycle module 1, which is the off-road module, lorry and bus tests, and ADI part 3. A site handling module 1 and vocational tests has motorcycles and large vehicles moving around it, so keep to the marked areas once you arrive.

On access, the record says only that DVSA will make arrangements for you if you have a disability. Step-free access is not published either way, so ring the centre in advance if you need it confirmed rather than turning up hoping.

Parking and waiting facilities are not published. Allow time to find a space and walk in.

Tests are booked, moved and cancelled through GOV.UK only. The wait here has been growing, from around ten weeks a year ago to over sixteen now, so hold the date you have and check for cancellations rather than giving it up.

This centre is not car only. DVSA publishes results for these categories separately, and they are taken by different candidates on different vehicles, so the rates are not comparable with the car figure above.
