Key facts

  • Aylesbury's pass rate was 49.3% in 2025/26 from 5,255 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 24 of 30 centres in South East (South East average 52.9%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 3.6 points below it.
  • The rate has been stable since 2021/22, moving between 44.9% (2023/24) and 49.3% (2025/26).
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 5 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 18.4 weeks ahead.
  • A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 20.9 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 15.9 weeks.
  • 34.6% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

The busiest of the five practice loops on this page takes in seventeen roundabouts in 12.4 km. The quietest still has ten. Aylesbury is built around them, and the centre sits on Bell Business Park with Coldharbour Way, Griffin Lane, Brunel Road and Bicester Road feeding roundabouts in every direction. Five of the ones on the loops are mini-roundabouts, which is the detail that matters, because a mini gives you a fraction of the space to make the same decision. The other half of the picture is speed: 47 per cent of the loop distance is at 40 mph, so the test keeps swapping between 40 mph link roads and 30 mph estates. There are also 31 traffic-calming features to slow you back down again.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

Five mini-roundabouts sit on the practice loops on this page, tucked in among the full-sized ones, and they are where Aylesbury tests are lost. The rules are the same as a full roundabout, but the space is not: you have to have chosen your exit and put the signal on before you arrive, and you have to steer round the painted circle rather than flatten it. Doing that at 30 mph with a car behind you is a different job from doing it on a quiet estate road.

There are conventional roundabouts as well. Coldharbour Way, Griffin Lane, Haydon Road, Bicester Road, Brunel Road, Gatehouse Road and Andrews Way are among the loop roads carrying them, and the loops chain them together closely enough that the exit of one becomes the approach to the next.

The speed pattern is the second thing. Just under half the loop distance is at 40 mph and just over half at 30, with almost nothing in between. Practise the transitions in both directions, particularly the drop into an estate, because 31 traffic-calming features are waiting on the slower side and arriving at a cushion or a table at 40 is both uncomfortable and marked.

By contrast there are only two give-way junctions on the whole 56 km of loops. Junction work in the ordinary sense barely features here. Traffic signals do: 13 sets of them, 13 signalled crossings and three zebras.

Manoeuvres are asked for on the residential streets rather than on the business park itself.

Test day at Aylesbury

The centre is Unit 9, ground floor, on Bell Business Park, a working estate on the edge of town rather than a building in a street. Unit numbers on estates like this are not always obvious from the road, so allow a couple of minutes to find the right block.

DVSA publishes that you can access this centre if you use a wheelchair. It publishes nothing about candidate parking. Business park units usually have bays close by and estate roads with space on them when the bays are full, which is typical of this kind of centre rather than confirmed for Aylesbury.

Car tests and motorcycle module 2, the on-road module, are run from here. Module 1 and ADI tests are not. All booking, moving and cancelling goes through GOV.UK.

Aylesbury Vale Parkway station is about a mile off, so the train is workable, though most candidates arrive with an instructor.

One number to plan around: the median wait at Aylesbury has been running at about five weeks, well under the national figure, but the first date with a decent share of free slots was sitting much further out. Short waits here depend on cancellations, so book early and watch for changes.
