- High Wycombe's pass rate was 51.5% in 2025/26 from 3,534 tests, 1.5 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 20 of 30 centres in South East (South East average 52.9%), a mid-table pass rates in the region.
- The rate has been stable since 2020/21, moving between 47.5% (2021/22) and 52.5% (2020/21).
- Male candidates passed at 54.3% and female candidates at 48.7%, a gap of 5.6 points.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 4.6 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 9 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 18.3 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 13.7 weeks.
The High Wycombe test centre is a set of bays at the Holiday Inn on the Handy Cross roundabout, the Junction 4 site on the southern edge of town. There is no waiting room in the usual sense. The examiner meets candidates in the car park, which is unlike almost any other centre in the region. The area around it is dense with junctions: 46 mini-roundabouts and 44 sets of traffic signals are tagged within two and a half kilometres, alongside 34 schools. The practice loops on this page drop into the town or run out along Marlow Hill and Marlow Road. Only car tests are held here. The wait has fallen sharply over the past year and is now shorter than at the neighbouring centres listed on this page.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Almost none of this area is 20 mph. One per cent of the roads tagged within two and a half kilometres carry that limit, which is unusual for a town of this size in the South East. Nearly two thirds are 30, then 15 per cent are 40 and about a fifth are 60 or 70. The result is a test that keeps changing pace rather than settling into one.
Mini-roundabouts are the signature feature. There are 46 of them tagged in the area, more than at most centres this size, along with 44 sets of traffic signals. Several sit in short runs where the exit of one is the approach to the next, and the practice loops on this page take in between two and six of the larger roundabouts as well. Handy Cross itself is the one to think about, because you meet it leaving the centre and again coming back in.
Marlow Hill and Daws Hill Lane are among the most used streets on the loops. Desborough Avenue, Lancaster Road and Wellington Road are the older residential grid, where side turnings come close together and parked cars reduce the road to a single working lane in places. One loop alone carries eighteen right turns in ten kilometres, the highest density on the set. Emerging right, repeatedly, into traffic that is not going to slow down for you, is what this centre asks for.
Thirty-four schools are tagged in the area. On a weekday mid-afternoon slot the streets around them are the busiest part of the drive.
Manoeuvres are usually asked for on the quieter residential roads off Crest Road and Holmers Farm Way.

Test day at High Wycombe
The address is the Holiday Inn at Junction 4, Handy Cross Roundabout, and DVSA has no building of its own here. The examiner meets and greets candidates at three numbered bays in the hotel car park. GOV.UK lists which bay numbers those are on the centre's own page, so check them the night before and again when you park.
That arrangement changes the shape of the morning. There is nowhere to sit and wait, so arrive with enough time to find the bays but not so much that you are sitting in the car for half an hour beforehand. Have your licence to hand and be ready to sign the insurance declaration in the car.
GOV.UK does not publish an accessibility line for this centre. If you need step-free access or any other adjustment, ring DVSA before the day rather than assuming.
Only car tests are held here, so there are no motorcycle or lorry candidates on site. The eyesight check is done in the car park, and the drive starts by leaving the hotel site onto the roundabout system. The first significant junction of the test therefore comes within a minute of moving off, before most candidates have settled. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK.
