Key facts

  • Wrexham's pass rate was 51.9% in 2025/26 from 4,819 tests, 1.9 points above the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 13 of 21 centres in Wales (Wales average 52.4%), a mid-table pass rates in the region.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 8.9 points, from 43% to 51.9%.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 7 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 16.6 weeks ahead.
  • A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 13.1 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 6.1 weeks.

Wrexham is by some distance the busiest centre in this part of Wales, taking close to five thousand car tests a year, and the road network around it is the reason it feels harder than the pass rate suggests. There are thirty-nine sets of traffic signals, seventeen mini-roundabouts and eight conventional roundabouts within two and a half kilometres of the test centre, along with twenty-two schools. One of the practice loops on this page crosses fifteen roundabouts in under eleven kilometres. The centre itself is on the ground floor of Birchall House on Wrexham Technology Park, out on the eastern edge of the town, and waits here are short by national standards.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

Roundabouts and traffic signals are the whole story at Wrexham. Thirty-nine sets of lights and twenty-five roundabouts of one kind or another sit within two and a half kilometres of the centre, and every practice loop on this page crosses at least six of them. One loop crosses fifteen while asking for barely any turns at all, which tells you what the drive is actually about: lane discipline, exit signals and approach speed, over and over, rather than complicated junction manoeuvres.

The named ones come up repeatedly. Croesnewydd Road, Berse Road, Holt Road, Queensway, Chester Road, Gatewen Road and the ones serving Plas Coch Retail Park carry the traffic around the town, and the roads between them, Mold Road, Plas Coch Road, Ruthin Road, Watery Road and Bersham Road, are where the signals sit. Getting into the correct lane early, and staying in it round a two-lane roundabout, is the single most useful thing to practise.

Almost nine in ten of the tagged roads near the centre are 20 mph, which follows the Welsh default on restricted roads. That makes the limit changes sharp: you can come off the A525 or a 40 mph link road straight into a 20 street, and the speed has to be down before the sign rather than after it. With twenty-two schools in the same radius, the 20 zones are busy ones.

Quieter driving is available on Summerhill Road, Beacon Road, Chatsworth Drive and Rhyd Broughton Lane, which is where the loops go when they leave the ring of roundabouts behind. There is one level crossing in the area.

Test day at Wrexham

The centre is on the ground floor of 1 Birchall House on Wrexham Technology Park, a business park east of the town centre. It is signed as a technology park rather than a test centre, so on a first visit allow time to find the right building among several similar ones. Wrexham General station is about a kilometre away. Parking for candidates is not published by DVSA; business parks of this kind normally have shared visitor bays, and the safe plan is to arrive early rather than count on a space at the door.

DVSA publishes that this centre provides car tests and ADI part 3 tests. Nothing is published about wheelchair access or arrangements for candidates with a disability, so ring the booking line before the date if either applies to you.

After the licence check and the insurance declaration, the eyesight check is done outside on a parked number plate. Waits here are among the shorter ones in Wales and roughly thirty per cent of the slots in the booking window were unbooked in the latest figures, so if your date does not suit, checking GOV.UK again for something earlier is realistic rather than wishful.
