Key facts
- Crewe's pass rate was 43.8% in 2025/26 from 4,994 tests, 6.2 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 27 of 31 centres in North West (North West average 49.0%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 5.2 points below it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 6.3 points, from 37.5% to 43.8%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 16 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 22.8 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 19.1 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 3.1 weeks.
- 23.4% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Crewe passes 43.8 per cent of its candidates, 267th of the 302 centres ranked and twenty-seventh of the thirty-one in the North West. It is improving, though — up 6.3 points since 2021/22 — and the wait has come down from twenty weeks to sixteen. What marks the practice loops on this page out is the railway: eight level crossings sit in the area, more than at almost any other centre. Beyond that it is dense town driving, seventy-six per cent of the distance at 30 mph and nineteen per cent at 20, with twenty-two pieces of traffic calming along the way.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Eight level crossings sit in the area around this centre. Crewe is a railway town and it drives like one — the crossings, and the streets that funnel toward them, shape a good part of the road network here.
On the loops themselves there are nine named roundabouts: Earle Street, William Street, Vernon Way, Mill Street, Crewe Road, Jack Mills Way, Weston Road, Crewe Green Road and Hungerford Road, plus four mini-roundabouts. They are unevenly spread. One of the five practice loops on this page carries six of them in nine kilometres; another carries a single roundabout across eleven, and fills the distance with turning instead — eighteen right turns and thirteen lefts.
There are twenty-seven sets of traffic signals and eighteen signalled crossings, with three zebras and just one give-way junction on the whole set. Almost every decision here is either at a light or on a roundabout.
Speeds stay low throughout: seventy-six per cent of the distance at 30 mph, nineteen per cent at 20 and six per cent at 40. There is no dual carriageway and no A-road on the loops at all, so there is no fast section anywhere. Twenty-two pieces of traffic calming means humps are a regular feature.
Earle Street, Brooklyn Street, Nantwich Road, Nile Street, Crewe Road, Walthall Street, Owen Street, Ruskin Road, Fuller Drive, Victoria Avenue, Edleston Road and Vernon Way carry most of the driving, and twenty-six schools sit inside the area.

Test day at Crewe
The centre is at 6 Nile Street, CW2 7LL. Car tests only — no motorcycle or ADI tests are held here — and DVSA says you can access this test centre if you use a wheelchair.
Crewe station is 800 metres away.
Nothing is published about parking. Nile Street is residential, so instructors use the surrounding streets.
Waits are long but moving the right way. A median of sixteen weeks for tests taken in July 2026, against 11.9 weeks across Great Britain, and twenty weeks at this same centre a year earlier — four weeks shorter than it was. The first week with a tenth of its appointments still free was twenty-two weeks out.
Northwich is the interesting comparison: twenty kilometres away, passing 57.6 per cent against Crewe's 43.8, though it was waiting 19.1 weeks. That is nearly fourteen points of difference for three extra weeks and a longer drive. Both Stoke centres are closer but pass lower, at 40.6 and 41.6 per cent.
Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK.
