Key facts
- Llantrisant's pass rate was 54% in 2025/26 from 9,909 tests, 4 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 11 of 21 centres in Wales (Wales average 52.4%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 1.6 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 8.5 points, from 62.5% to 54%.
- Male candidates passed at 52.5% and female candidates at 56.2%, a gap of 3.7 points.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 8.6 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 12 weeks ahead.
Llantrisant is an unusually easy centre to get into. The median wait for a July test was under nine weeks, better than the national figure, and more than a third of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked, so a cancellation or a new date is a realistic option here rather than a hope. The pass rate is above the national average too, though it has fallen a long way from where it stood: down more than eight points since 2021. The centre is on School Road at Miskin, west of Cardiff, and the driving around it mixes village streets, the A4119 and A473, and open country roads.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Only eight schools sit within two and a half kilometres of the centre, which tells you how thinly built up this area is next to a town centre test. There is little of the constant pedestrian pressure that shapes an urban route. What replaces it is distance and speed.
The A4119 and A473 are the fast roads. Both carry dual carriageway in the area, and the loops use them to link Miskin, Pontyclun and Llantrisant itself. Joining at the right speed, holding the correct lane and coming off again cleanly are the parts of a Llantrisant test that cannot be improvised on the day.
Between them, the driving is slow and local. Forty per cent of the roads tagged around the centre are 20 mph and another forty-four per cent are 30. School Road, Cerdin Avenue, Llwynfen Road and Bryn Dewi Sant are residential, narrow in places and parked, and the drop from a 40 mph link road into a 20 mph village street happens quickly enough to catch people who were still thinking about the road behind them.
Roundabouts are mostly small: fourteen mini-roundabouts in the area against three named ones, at School Road, Fair View Close and Danybryn. The busiest of the practice loops on this page has seven roundabouts in a little over seven miles; the quietest has two.
Two level crossings sit within the area. If a Llantrisant test catches you out, it will be on a transition, either the speed you carry off a fast road or the hesitation you carry onto one.

Test day at Llantrisant
The centre is on School Road at Miskin, on the edge of Llantrisant. DVSA runs car tests here alongside lorry and bus tests and ADI parts 2 and 3, so expect large vehicles moving on and off the site while you are waiting. The centre is accessible if you use a wheelchair.
Parking and waiting facilities are not published. A centre taking lorry and bus tests needs room to do it, so there is normally space, but treat that as typical of the type rather than confirmed and give yourself a few minutes in hand.
Pontyclun station is under two kilometres away, which is close by the standards of Welsh test centres, though most candidates still arrive with an instructor.
Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK. This is one of the few centres where the booking system works in your favour, and that is worth using. If you are not ready, moving your test costs you less here than it would at Cardiff Llanishen or at most English centres, because getting another date is straightforward. January and July are the weakest months for pass rates here; August and May are the strongest.
