Key facts
- Bridgend's pass rate was 53.3% in 2025/26 from 5,990 tests, 3.3 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 12 of 21 centres in Wales (Wales average 52.4%), a mid-table pass rates in the region.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 3.1 points, from 56.4% to 53.3%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 5.7 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 7.8 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 10.4 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 4.7 weeks.
Bridgend is a town of traffic lights ringed by roundabouts. Forty-one sets of signals sit within a couple of miles of the Crown Building on Angel Street, and four of the five practice loops on this page carry seven or eight roundabouts each. Hernston Retail Park, Princess Way and Coychurch Road are among the named ones.
Wales lowered the default limit on many built-up roads to 20 mph in September 2023, but the mapped profile around this centre is still mostly 30, with only about one road in eleven at 20. Read the signs rather than assuming either figure. The A48 and a stretch of dual carriageway supply the faster driving, and there are two level crossings in the area. The pass rate is above the national average, though it has slipped since 2021.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Roundabouts come in runs here. Four of the five loops on this page take in seven or eight of them, and because several sit on the approaches to the retail parks they are wide, multi-lane and busy with traffic that knows exactly where it is going. Choosing the lane on the approach, holding it round, and signalling for the exit rather than after it is the sequence to have automatic before test day. Princess Way and Coychurch Road are the ones people mention most.
The town centre is the other half. Angel Street, Park Street and the streets around them are older and tighter, with side turnings close together, and forty-one sets of lights inside a couple of miles means you rarely get a clear run. Stop lines and box junctions are worth respecting even when the road ahead looks empty.
Away from the middle, the A48 and the dual carriageway give the only genuinely fast driving. Joining at the speed of the traffic already there, then shedding that speed again in the length of the slip road, is the part that shows nerves. There are two level crossings within a couple of miles, so a stop at one is a live possibility rather than a curiosity.
Manoeuvres are usually asked for on the quieter residential roads out towards Brackla Way, Llangewydd Road and Merthyrmawr Road, where there is enough straight kerb to work with. The loops run between about six and seven miles, and one of them picks up a stretch of Tondu Road on the way back in.

Test day at Bridgend
The centre is in the Crown Building on Angel Street, in the middle of Bridgend rather than on an estate outside it. Bridgend station is about four hundred metres away, so arriving by train is realistic here. GOV.UK does not publish an access line for this centre beyond saying that DVSA will make arrangements for candidates with a disability, so if you need step-free entry or anything else specific, ring the centre before the day instead of turning up and hoping. The centre runs car tests, motorcycle module 2 on the road, and ADI part 2 and part 3.
Parking is not published either. A town-centre unit of this kind rarely has candidate spaces of its own, so the usual pattern is a drop-off at the door and a public car park nearby. Treat a space outside as luck rather than a plan, and build the walk into your arrival time.
Two thirds of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in the most recent figures, so if the date you are given does not suit you, moving it is more realistic at Bridgend than at most centres. Booking, changing and cancelling all happen through GOV.UK.

This centre is not car only. DVSA publishes results for these categories separately, and they are taken by different candidates on different vehicles, so the rates are not comparable with the car figure above.
