Key facts
- Huddersfield's pass rate was 49.2% in 2025/26 from 10,563 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 16 of 27 centres in Yorkshire and The Humber (Yorkshire and The Humber average 50.4%), a mid-table pass rates in the region.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 2 points, from 47.2% to 49.2%.
- Male candidates passed at 50.6% and female candidates at 47.4%, a gap of 3.2 points.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 11.1 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 16.8 weeks ahead.
- 24.4% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Huddersfield's test centre does not look like a test centre. It works out of two board rooms inside the Chestnut Centre, a community health building on Chestnut Street in Deighton, north of the town. DVSA moved the operation here in 2023 from a hotel on the other side of Huddersfield, and the test area moved with it, so routes that used to run out towards Lindley and Marsh now run through Deighton, Sheepridge, Bradley and Fartown instead. Anyone practising from an old set of routes is practising the wrong roads. The one clear gain from the move is that candidates wait indoors rather than standing beside the car in the rain. The practice loops on this page run from about nine to thirteen kilometres.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Bradford Road is the road this test is built around. It appears more often than any other road on the practice loops on this page, and it carries more of the roundabouts than any other road here. It runs north out of Huddersfield with retail and industrial traffic on it, a limit that changes as you move out of town, and roundabouts spaced closely enough that the routine has to be automatic. Lane discipline on the multi-lane sections is watched, and so is the exit signal.
The loops are not uniform. Two of them contain no roundabout at all and are pure junction work, while two contain four each. That means the drive you get depends on which way the examiner turns out of Chestnut Street, and it is worth practising both kinds.
The residential half of the area is Deighton, Sheepridge and Bradley. Ashbrow Road, Sheepridge Road, Deighton Road, Keldregate, Spaines Road and Bradley Road are ordinary streets with parked cars, side turnings and gradient. This is the Pennine edge of West Yorkshire, so hills are constant. Moving off uphill, holding the car at a junction on a slope and coming downhill to a give-way with the wrong gear selected are all live risks rather than textbook ones.
Leeds Road and Hillhouse Lane take the longer loops back towards town, where traffic is heavier and the junctions are signalled rather than roundabouts. Manoeuvres are normally asked for on the quieter estate streets. Practise the pull-up on the right on a hill, because a flat car park teaches you nothing about it.

Test day at Huddersfield
The address is 2A Chestnut Street, and the part you want is inside the Chestnut Centre rather than a unit of its own. Look for the main building and go in; the driving test uses two of the board rooms and there is a waiting area indoors.
Parking is the thing to plan for. There is a car park, but it serves the health centre as well as the test centre, and it fills up. Arrive with a margin, and if you are coming in your own car rather than with an instructor, be ready to find a space on a nearby street and walk the last minute or two.
Toilets and step-free access are available in the building. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled through GOV.UK only.
The examiner will collect you from the waiting area, check your licence and take the insurance declaration, and the eyesight check is done outside on Chestnut Street. The drive begins on the residential streets around the centre, which is a gentler opening than most, but Bradford Road is rarely more than a minute or two away.
