Key facts
- Chadderton's pass rate was 46.8% in 2025/26 from 15,988 tests, 3.2 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 22 of 31 centres in North West (North West average 49.0%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 2.2 points below it.
- The rate has been stable since 2021/22, moving between 44.2% (2023/24) and 47.3% (2021/22).
- Male candidates passed at 49.8% and female candidates at 43.3%, a gap of 6.5 points, wider than at most centres.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 12 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- 29.7% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Count the junctions and Chadderton makes sense. Within a couple of miles of the centre there are twenty-nine mini-roundabouts and a little over a hundred sets of traffic lights, which is a lot for an area this size. You are rarely more than a few hundred metres from a decision.
The centre itself is a unit on Broadgate, inside Broadway Business Park, with Oldham on one side and north Manchester on the other. Just over half the roads around it are 20 mph now, so the test is a slow one, made of approaches and observations rather than open stretches. The pass rate has barely moved in five years, which tells you the difficulty here is structural, not a bad patch.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Half the roads here are 20 mph and a third are 30, so the top end of the test is a modest 40. What makes Chadderton awkward is not speed. It is the sheer number of junctions and the fact that so many of them are mini-roundabouts. There are thirty-one within a couple of miles, and they behave nothing like the painted circles they resemble. You give way to the right, you signal properly, and you do not straddle them.
The larger roundabouts your instructor will name are these:
- Broadgate, on the estate itself, usually the first one of the test
- Greengate, and Greengate Street behind it, where residential junctions come thick and fast
- Kingsway and Fourways, both carrying through traffic
- Hollins Road, Hall Drive and Jardine Way on the wider loops
Broadway is the quickest road you are likely to touch and the one where merging and lane discipline get tested properly. Away from it, Grimshaw Lane, Whitegate Lane, Selkirk Road and Kingston Avenue are ordinary terraced and semi-detached streets, parked on both sides, where the examiner watches how you deal with an oncoming car and a gap.
Sixty-seven schools sit inside the same radius, an unusually high count, and the streets round them are exactly the 20 mph roads the loops use. Between three and four in the afternoon they are full. The practice loops on this page run eleven to twelve kilometres and take in five or six roundabouts each, which is a fair reflection of what the drive actually feels like.

Test day at Chadderton
Broadway Business Park is a working estate of low units and loading yards, and the test centre is one door among many at 9 Broadgate. It has neighbouring businesses either side and no frontage that stands out, so find it once before the day rather than circling on the morning.
There is parking on site, though space is limited and shared with the businesses around it. Accounts of how much of it candidates can use differ, which is typical of a leased unit on an estate like this. Assume you may have to wait for a bay, and get there with ten minutes in hand rather than five. Toilets are available, male, female and accessible, and the building is wheelchair accessible with staff pointing the way.
Moston station is about a kilometre off, and the Metrolink line between Oldham and Manchester runs close by with a stop called Broadway. Either leaves you a walk through the estate, so allow for it.
Estate traffic is heaviest first thing and around the end of the working day, with vans manoeuvring in the yards. August has been the strongest month here and November the weakest, which mostly reflects daylight and weather on the residential streets.
