Mini roundabout
A painted island instead of a raised one, the same priority rules, and you still have to go round it, not across it.
Painted, but not decoration
The white circle is a road marking with the force of a roundabout. Give way to the right, and pass round the island where the size of your vehicle allows. In a car it always allows. Driving straight over the paint is marked under Response to signs – road markings, which was DVSA's seventh most common fault in 2025-26.
Everything happens closer together
There is no long approach and no big island to hide behind: the give-way line, the decision and the exit are within a few car lengths of each other. That is why the signal has to be on early and why the observation has to start before you are at the line.
The traffic is the same every time
Fixed seed, fixed timestep. The cars arrive in the same order on every attempt, so you can repeat one decision until it is automatic.
Common questions
Can I drive over the painted circle?
Only if your vehicle is physically too big to go round it. In a car, go round.
Who has priority at a mini roundabout?
Traffic coming from your right, exactly as at a full-size one. If two drivers arrive together and neither is to the other's right, the one who is ready first goes, but make it obvious what you are doing.
The rest of the set
- Single-lane roundaboutFour arms, one lane round. Give way to the right, take the second exit.
- Three-arm roundaboutThree arms in a T. From the side road the second exit is a right turn, so it needs a right signal.
- Double mini roundaboutTwo minis, one after the other. Each is its own give way. Read them one at a time.
- Two-lane roundaboutTwo lanes round, spiral arrows on the road. Right lane and a right signal for the third exit.
- Signal-controlled roundaboutLights on every arm. Green gets you to the line: you still give way to the roundabout.
- City gyratorySix arms, two lanes, uneven spacing. One arm only joins and one only leaves. Count carefully.
- Magic roundaboutFive minis around a ring that runs the other way. Read them one at a time and it is just five give ways.
Also included: the manoeuvre simulator and the 3D drives of the routes around your own test centre.
