Key facts
- Swansea's pass rate was 48.2% in 2025/26 from 12,375 tests, 1.8 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 19 of 21 centres in Wales (Wales average 52.4%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 4.2 points below it.
- The rate has been stable since 2021/22, moving between 48.2% (2025/26) and 53.4% (2023/24).
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 5.9 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 9 weeks ahead.
Swansea's test centre sits on the docks, on Burrows Road off Langdon Road at Kings Dock, and the drive reflects where it is. There are no A-roads on the practice loops on this page at all, no dual carriageway, and five level crossings in the area, because the old dock lines still cut across the roads. Forty-six per cent of the distance is at 20 mph and forty-seven at 30. What the loops do have is roundabouts, between three and seven on each of the five. Swansea passes 48.2 per cent of its candidates against 52.4 across Wales, which puts it nineteenth of the twenty-one Welsh centres. The wait, though, is under six weeks.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
There are no A-roads on these loops. That is unusual, and it changes the shape of the test: instead of a faster stretch to settle into, Swansea gives you dock roads, terraced streets and roundabouts, one after another.
Each of the five practice loops on this page carries between three and seven roundabouts in eight to twelve kilometres. Langdon Road and King's Road are the two named ones. Three mini-roundabouts and only thirteen give-way junctions do the rest, which tells you how much of the junction work here is circular rather than stop-and-look.
Thirty-three sets of traffic lights and sixteen signalled crossings sit on the loops. There is a single zebra crossing in the whole drive.
The speeds are slow and evenly split, forty-six per cent of the distance at 20 mph and forty-seven at 30, with a seven per cent stretch at 40.
Five level crossings sit in the area. The dock lines still run across the roads around Langdon Road, Lamberts Road and Port Tennant Road, and a crossing that closes on you mid-test unsettles a candidate who has not met one before.
The residential half of the drive is the streets above the docks: St. Leger Crescent, Beaumont Crescent, Nicander Parade and Grenfell Park Road, with New Cut Road and East Bank Way carrying you between them.
With nine pieces of traffic calming across fifty-one kilometres of loop, this is not a test won or lost on speed humps. It is won on roundabout observation, repeated more times than most centres ask for.

Test day at Swansea
The centre is on Burrows Road, off Langdon Road, at Kings Dock in St Thomas, SA1 8QY. Car tests run from here, and so do motorcycle module 1 and 2 and ADI parts 2 and 3.
Swansea station is a little over a kilometre away, which for a dockside centre is closer than you would expect, and the walk is flat.
Nothing is published about parking or step-free access, so ring the centre in advance if you need either arranged.
The booking picture is unusually good. Learners who tested in July 2026 had waited a median of 5.9 weeks against a national median of 11.9, and almost sixty per cent of the standard appointments in the booking window were still unbooked. A cancellation or an earlier date is realistic here in a way it is not at most centres.
The month matters more than at most places. May and April were the strongest at 54.5 and 53.8 per cent; January was the weakest at 48.5. Llanelli, eighteen kilometres away, passes a higher share of its candidates and waits no longer, so it is worth a look before you book. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK.
