Key facts
- Maidstone's pass rate was 60.2% in 2025/26 from 8,053 tests, 10.2 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 4 of 30 centres in South East (South East average 52.9%), one of the higher pass rates in the region, 7.3 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 7 points, from 53.2% to 60.2%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 10 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 22.2 weeks ahead.
- 21.5% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Maidstone is one of the few centres left where nearly everything you drive is a 30. Just under nine in ten tagged roads within a couple of miles of the centre carry a 30 mph limit, and only a trace are 20. That makes it a junction test rather than a speed test. The practice loops on this page are built out of long sequences of turns, one of them with ten right turns in twelve kilometres, and roundabouts barely feature. Loose Road and Sutton Road carry most of the traffic, and most of the marks. With more than 8,000 tests a year it is a busy centre, and its pass rate is among the higher ones in the South East, sitting 43rd of 302 nationally and climbing since 2021.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Loose Road is the spine of the practice loops on this page. It is a 30 with side turnings close together, parked cars narrowing it in places and buses pulling in and out, and it produces the two faults this centre is known for: a right turn taken from the wrong position, and hesitation at a gap that was big enough.
The wider picture is uniform. Within a couple of miles of the centre there are around 40 signalled junctions but only seven mini-roundabouts, so you should expect to be judging traffic at give ways and lights rather than reading roundabout lanes. The named roundabouts that do turn up, Plains Avenue, Marion Crescent, Launder Way and Enterprise Road, sit on estate roads and are mostly small.
The A20, A249 and A274 are all within reach, and there is dual carriageway close enough that a longer loop can put you on one. The skill there is joining at the speed of the traffic already running and losing it again for the next 30 without being told.
Teasaucer Hill and Stockett Lane supply the gradient. A hill start on a slope with cars parked along one side is a fair expectation here, and so is a downhill approach to a junction where the brake has to come on earlier than it does on the flat. Manoeuvres are usually asked for on quieter residential roads rather than on Loose Road itself.
There are 32 schools inside the same radius. An afternoon slot puts you on residential 30s at exactly the wrong time, which is when both speed and observation tend to slip.

Test day at Maidstone
The centre is Unit 1 North Court on South Park Business Village, off Armstrong Road, a working estate of small units south of the town centre. There is no shopfront to spot from a moving car, so find the unit number rather than trusting the postcode.
DVSA publishes two useful things about this one. There are toilets for candidates, and a café where accompanying drivers can wait, which is more than most units of this kind offer. The same record directs candidates to the overflow car park next door rather than to a space at the unit, or tells them to follow the DVSA signage on arrival. Allow a few minutes for the walk back rather than budgeting for a space by the door.
Nothing is published about step-free access here. If you need it, ring the centre before the day instead of finding out on it.
Maidstone West station is under a mile away, though most candidates arrive with an instructor. The centre runs car tests plus ADI part 2 and part 3, with no motorcycle testing. Booking, moving and cancelling a test is done only through GOV.UK, never through a third party.
