Ludlow is a country test. Within two and a half kilometres of the centre, 44 per cent of the roads are at national speed limit and only 46 per cent are 30, and there are five signal-controlled junctions in the whole area. There are no conventional roundabouts tagged at all. That is the opposite of the profile most candidates train on, and it changes what gets marked: not lane discipline at a big junction, but reading a bend on a road you cannot see round. The centre is on Eco Park Road, off Sheet Road east of the town, and the loops take in the Ludlow Bypass and the lanes towards Caynham and Rocks Green. The pass rate is second of the 26 centres in the West Midlands and has risen since 2021.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Almost half the roads in the area around the centre are at national speed limit, which on the lanes here means 60 mph on roads that will not take anything close to it. That is the fault line at Ludlow. The limit is not a target, and the examiner is watching whether you read the road rather than the sign: the width, the hedges, what you can see through the next bend, and whether you could stop in the distance you can see to be clear.
The other half of the picture is a small market town. Around 46 per cent of the roads in the same radius are 30 mph, and Corve Street, Sheet Road and the streets around Rocks Green carry that part of the driving.
Junctions are sparse by the standards of any town centre. There are five signal-controlled junctions and five mini-roundabouts within two and a half kilometres, and no conventional roundabouts tagged at all. The practice loops on this page pick up between three and six roundabout entries each, so on this route network they will be mini-roundabouts and the give way lines you meet on the way out of town.
Three level crossings sit in the area. Approach one at a speed that lets you stop, and do not move on to it without a clear exit.
The loops run between 6.8 and 13.2 km, which is a wide spread, and the longest of them spends most of its length out of the town on 60 mph road. With only seven schools in the area, the residential streets used for manoeuvres are quieter than at most centres.

Test day at Ludlow
The centre is Unit 1 in The Business Quarter on Eco Park Road, off Sheet Road on the eastern side of Ludlow. It is a modern unit on a small business park, so follow the park in rather than looking for a frontage on the main road.
GOV.UK publishes that you cannot access this test centre if you use a wheelchair. If that affects you, speak to DVSA before booking so they can arrange an alternative, rather than discovering it on the day.
The tests offered are car and ADI part 3. There are no motorcycle tests here.
Parking is not published. Business park units usually have bays outside and space on the park roads, which is typical rather than confirmed, so allow a couple of minutes to park and walk in.
Ludlow station is under two kilometres away, so arriving by train is possible, but most candidates come with an instructor. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled through GOV.UK only.
This centre is busier than the size of the town suggests, with over 5,000 car tests a year, so expect other candidates waiting. The examiner checks your licence, has you sign the insurance declaration, and does the eyesight check outside.
