Key facts
- Brodick's pass rate was 67.3% in 2025/26 from 55 tests, 17.3 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- On waiting times, the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- 30% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Brodick passed 67.3 per cent of candidates in 2025/26, 17.3 points above the national average of 50, from 55 tests — too few for a national ranking, so treat the figure as a good sign rather than a promise. The roads are the quietest of any test area in the country. Across 44.8 kilometres of practice loops on this page there is not one give-way junction, not one set of traffic signals and not one roundabout, only a single zebra crossing and one school. The A841 does most of the work. The median wait was 19.1 weeks, but the diary tells a better story: the first week with slots still free was only 8 weeks out.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
There is almost no road furniture here at all. Across 44.8 kilometres and five loops there are no give-way junctions, no traffic signals, no roundabouts of any kind, no mini-roundabouts, no traffic calming and no level crossings. One zebra crossing and one school. That is the whole inventory.
What it means in practice is that the test is about the road itself rather than about signs telling you what to do. Thirty-five per cent of the distance is at 30 mph and 14 per cent at 60, with the rest at lower limits again, and the A841 carries the driving out of the village and back along the coast. Those coast sections bend continuously, the surface changes where the shore comes close, and the sightlines open and close with the headlands. Reading the road ahead and adjusting before the bend, not in it, is the skill being marked.
The turning is mild and leans left. An 8.2 kilometre loop asks for six right turns and ten left, a 6.8 kilometre loop asks for six and eight, and a 13.5 kilometre loop asks for five and eight. Only the shortest loop is even, at four of each. Left turns in numbers are where carelessness shows — cutting the corner, and not checking the nearside before committing.
Market Road, Shore Road, Alma Road, Glencloy Road, Corriegills Road, Auchrannie Road and Hendry Place carry most of the driving. There is no dual carriageway.

Test day at Brodick
The centre is at the Royal Mail Delivery Office on Mayish Road, KA27 8AU. Car tests only. GOV.UK does not publish a wheelchair access note for this site, so ring DVSA and ask if you need to know before booking.
There is no railway station on Arran and parking is not published for the centre. A delivery office needs its yard and its approach clear for vans coming and going all morning, so leave the car on the street nearby and walk in.
The two waiting figures point in different directions, and the second one is the useful one. Learners tested in June 2026 had waited a median of 19.1 weeks, up from 12.6 a year earlier. But the first week with a tenth of its slots still free was only 8 weeks ahead — much sooner than the median, and sooner than anything else in this part of Scotland. Look at the diary yourself before you assume you are in for a long wait.
Everything else means a ferry. Rothesay is 29.4 kilometres away at 52 per cent and waiting 23.6 weeks. Irvine is 31.4 kilometres at 55.7 per cent and 18.3 weeks. Campbeltown is 33.9 kilometres at 71.6 per cent and 26.9 weeks. On the numbers, staying put is the sensible choice. Booking and cancelling is on GOV.UK only.
