Key facts

  • Salisbury's pass rate was 48.5% in 2025/26 from 6,630 tests, 1.5 points below the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 13 of 21 centres in South West (South West average 51.7%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 3.2 points below it.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 6.2 points, from 54.7% to 48.5%.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 5.3 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 15.6 weeks ahead.
  • A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 10.3 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 5 weeks.
  • 20.3% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

Thirty-two mini-roundabouts sit within two and a half kilometres of the Salisbury test centre. That count tells you what the test is made of. Add forty-four signalled junctions and eight named conventional roundabouts, and there is a give-way or a decision every few hundred metres from the moment you leave Rougemont Close.

Salisbury is also one of the harder centres in the South West. The pass rate is below the national average and has fallen since 2021, which runs against the national direction. The compensation is availability: the wait is short, and roughly a third of the slots in the booking window were still unbooked in July 2026.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

The mini-roundabout is the Salisbury test. Thirty-two of them sit within two and a half kilometres of the centre, and they are what the city uses in place of traffic lights on residential through roads. The rules are the ones people get careless about: give way to the right, signal for the exit, and keep the wheels off the painted circle rather than straightening across it. Two of them in quick succession, with a turn between, is the sequence that produces faults.

Churchill Way West and Churchill Way North form the ring road, and they carry the faster, busier part of the loops on this page. College Roundabout, Bishopdown Farm and Hampton Park are named junctions in the area, and the A338 supplies dual carriageway on the edge of the city.

London Road, Laverstock Road and Milford Mill Road link the ring road to the eastern suburbs, and this is where the test spends most of its time. Three in ten of the roads mapped nearby are 20 mph and half are 30, so the pattern repeats: a short 30, a mini-roundabout, then a 20 zone on the other side of it.

Manor Road, Barrington Road, Bourne Avenue and Kelsey Road are the quieter residential streets where manoeuvres are usually set, with straight kerbs and parking on one side. Thirty schools sit inside the area, which is a lot for a city this size, and an afternoon test in term time will run into at least one of them. Fisherton Street and Odstock Road appear on the longer loops.

Test day at Salisbury

Salisbury station is a little over a kilometre from the centre on Rougemont Close, so walking in is realistic if your instructor is meeting you there rather than driving you.

On access, DVSA publishes only that it will make arrangements for candidates with a disability. There is no statement about wheelchair access, a waiting room or toilets, so treat all of that as unpublished and ring the booking line ahead if you need to know what the building is like.

The record lists car tests, motorcycle module 2 on the road, and ADI part 3. Module 1, the off-road manoeuvring test, is taken elsewhere.

Parking is not published either. Units on a close of this kind usually have a small number of bays, and bays fill up when tests start and finish together, so the safe assumption is that you may be parking on a nearby street and walking the last part. Leave time for it.

Waits here have shortened by more than five weeks over the past year, and a good share of the booking window was still open in July 2026. If you have a date you are unhappy with, it is worth looking again for something earlier. Booking, moving and cancelling all go through GOV.UK and nowhere else.
