Key facts
- Redditch's pass rate was 51.4% in 2025/26 from 4,483 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 10 of 26 centres in West Midlands (West Midlands average 46.2%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 5.2 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 8.9 points, from 42.5% to 51.4%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 4.4 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 20 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 7.6 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 3.2 weeks.
Redditch is a new town, and its test reflects the way new towns are built. Four fifths of the roads mapped within two and a half kilometres of the centre on Elm Road are 30 mph, and there are only six signalled junctions in that whole area. Traffic is separated by roundabout instead. The practice loops on this page pass between seven and eleven each, over distances of seven to ten kilometres, on estate distributor roads that are wide and often quiet. That is the trap: a quiet roundabout is still a roundabout, and the observation is marked whether or not anything is coming. The pass rate has climbed a long way since 2021 and now sits about level with the national average, and the wait here is short by national standards.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Hewell Road and Birmingham Road do most of the work. They are the older through routes, 30 mph with side turnings close together and parked cars narrowing them in places, and they carry the busy half of every loop.
The rest is Redditch's own layout: Brockhill Drive, Plymouth Road, Batchley Road and Foxlydiate Crescent, distributor roads that curve between estates and meet each other at roundabouts rather than crossroads. Cobbs Barn Roundabout is the named one. There are eight mini-roundabouts within two and a half kilometres of the centre, and mini-roundabouts are where marks go here. Signal for the exit you want, and keep the wheels off the painted circle rather than driving straight over it.
Alvechurch Highway and Bromsgrove Road are the faster roads in the area, and about one road in ten mapped nearby is 40 mph. The change of pace between an estate road and one of those is the transition worth rehearsing, because the limit does not rise gradually.
Manoeuvres are usually set on the quieter streets off the main roads, around Ivor Road, Union Street and Mount Pleasant, where kerbs are straight and there is enough parking on one side for a pull-up on the right to mean something.
The loops run from just over seven kilometres to just under ten, so there is not much warm-up before the first roundabout. Seventeen schools sit inside the area, which matters most for an afternoon slot in term time.

Test day at Redditch
Redditch station is roughly three hundred metres from the centre on Elm Road, which is unusually close. Most candidates can get themselves there without a lift, which helps if your instructor is meeting you rather than driving you in.
DVSA asks that you do not arrive more than ten minutes before your test time, so the usual advice about turning up early does not apply here. Ten minutes is enough to hand over your licence, sign the declaration that the car is insured for the test and have the eyesight check done outside.
The record confirms you can access this centre if you use a wheelchair, which is not published for every centre. It lists car tests, motorcycle module 2 on the road, and ADI part 3. There is no module 1 here, so the off-road motorcycle element is taken elsewhere.
Parking is not published. A unit of this kind usually has bays for candidates and instructors close by, but that is typical rather than certain, so allow a minute for it rather than assuming a space by the door. Tests are booked, moved and cancelled only through GOV.UK.
