Key facts
- Norris Green's pass rate was 37.8% in 2025/26 from 13,472 tests, 12.2 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 31 of 31 centres in North West (North West average 49.0%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 11.2 points below it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 3.3 points, from 41.1% to 37.8%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 15.3 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 9.1 weeks, so waits have grown by about 6.2 weeks.
- 34.7% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
Norris Green is a 20 mph test. Close to two thirds of the roads mapped within 2.5 km of the centre carry a 20 limit, and there are 48 schools inside that same radius, which tells you most of what the driving is like: parked cars outside gates, crossing patrols, children stepping out between vehicles and drivers stopping without warning. The other half of the test is the avenues. Townsend Avenue, Utting Avenue, Muirhead Avenue East and Walton Hall Avenue are the roads in and out of the estate, and they are wider, faster and heavily signalled. Norris Green has one of the lowest pass rates in the country and the lowest of any centre in the North West, so nothing on these roads is a formality.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Traffic lights define this area. There are 106 signalled junctions mapped within 2.5 km of the centre, counted as junctions in the surrounding network rather than as features of any single route, and the practice loops on this page spend much of their length moving between them. Townsend Avenue, Utting Avenue, Utting Avenue East and Muirhead Avenue East carry that traffic, and they are the roads where lane choice, a clean stop at an amber and a right turn taken from the correct position are worth more marks than anything in the estates.
Roundabouts are comparatively rare. Only two are named in the area, at Portal Way and Stalisfield Avenue, with four mini-roundabouts mapped in the same radius. If you have been drilling roundabout entries, this is not the centre that will reward it.
The loops run from 7.7 km up to 12 km. The longest works a stretch of Muirhead Avenue East and asks for eleven right turns; the shortest is under eight kilometres and still takes in Walton Hall Avenue. Right turns across a busy avenue are the repeated demand, and hesitation costs as much as impatience when the gaps are short.
Manoeuvres are normally set away from the avenues on the quieter estate roads. Blackthorne Road, Hornbeam Road and Storrington Avenue are that kind of street: narrow, parked on both sides, and easy to misjudge for width. The move worth practising is the drop from 30 to 20 on the way in, made before the sign rather than after it.

Test day at Norris Green
The centre is on Falklands Approach, a short road off Parthenon Drive in the middle of the estate. It is a residential setting rather than a business park or a shopping street, so the roads immediately outside are ordinary ones with residents' cars parked along them. DVSA publishes nothing about parking here. Assume you may have to leave the car on a nearby road and walk the last part, which is what usually happens at units of this kind, and treat a space by the door as luck rather than a plan.
GOV.UK does confirm that the centre is accessible if you use a wheelchair. It runs car tests and ADI part 2 and part 3 tests. There are no motorcycle, lorry or bus tests here.
Fazakerley is the nearest station and it is nearly three kilometres away, so almost everyone arrives by car with an instructor. Aim to be outside about ten minutes before your slot. The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and asks you to sign the declaration that the car is insured for the test. The eyesight check is done on the road outside before you get in. Booking, moving and cancelling a test all happen through GOV.UK and nowhere else.
