One set of traffic signals in 57.9 kilometres. That is the whole of Inverurie's test in a line: what joins the roads here is roundabouts, nine of them named, and one 11.9 kilometre loop takes in thirteen. It passes 61.9 per cent, 35th of the 302 centres ranked and 12.6 points above the Scottish average, with women passing at 64.4 per cent against 59.9 for men. Fifty-four per cent of the distance on the practice loops on this page is at 30 mph, 22 per cent at 40 and 19 at 60. The wait has moved a long way in a year, from 11.4 weeks to 17.7, so book earlier than you think you need to.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Nine roundabouts are named across the practice loops on this page — Constitution Street, West High Street, Blackhall Road, John Sorrie Drive, Boroughmuir Drive, Burghmuir Drive, Portstown Link Road, Aquhorthies Circle and Harlaw Road — and the loops themselves carry far more than that. One 11.9 kilometre loop takes in thirteen roundabouts, another twelve kilometres takes in eleven, and the lightest still has six. Against all of it there is a single set of traffic signals on the whole set.
So the test is approaches and exits, not stop lines. Reading the road markings early, holding the correct lane through, and signalling off at the right moment are what the marks are for. It also means the drive rarely stops moving: with five give-way junctions in 57.9 kilometres, you are almost never sitting still waiting for a gap.
Fifteen pieces of traffic calming are the other thing to expect, most of them in the newer estates on the west side — Uryside Drive, Brockhill Rise, Osprey Rise and Boroughmuir Drive, which is where the manoeuvres tend to go.
Blackhall Road, Harlaw Road, Oldmeldrum Road, West High Street, Constitution Street and Portstown Link Road carry the longer stretches, with the B993, B9001 and B9170 beyond them. Fifty-four per cent of the distance is at 30 mph, 22 per cent at 40 and 19 per cent at 60. There are six signalled crossings, two zebras, 5 schools in the area and no level crossings.

Test day at Inverurie
The centre is at the Garioch Indoor Bowling Centre on the Harlaw Industrial Estate, AB51 4FR. It shares the building with the bowling club, so the car park has its own users and the test centre is not the main thing going on there — worth knowing on a first visit, because it does not look like a test centre from the road.
Car tests only are conducted here. Inverurie station is 1.2 kilometres away, an easy enough walk if your instructor is meeting you at the centre.
Parking is not published for this site. On a shared leisure building, the sensible assumption is that the bays belong to the club; leave a few minutes rather than counting on a space by the door.
The wait was a median of 17.7 weeks for tests taken in July 2026, against a national 11.9, and the first week with a tenth of its slots still free was 24 weeks ahead. It has grown by more than six weeks in a year — the July 2025 median was 11.4.
April returned 63.9 per cent and January 50. Aberdeen South (Cove) is 28.4 kilometres away, passes 52.4 per cent and was waiting only 6.3 weeks; Huntly, 29.6 kilometres, passes 63.7 at 13.3 weeks. Booking and cancelling is on GOV.UK only.
