Key facts

  • Aberdeen North's pass rate was 48.2% in 2025/26 from 3,906 tests, 1.8 points below the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 55 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the lower pass rates in the region.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 7.5 points, from 55.7% to 48.2%.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 15.4 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 23 weeks ahead.
  • A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 8.3 weeks, so waits have grown by about 7.1 weeks.
  • 26.8% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

Aberdeen North is a junction test. There are 54 give-way junctions on the five practice loops on this page, a high count for a route set of this length, and one loop alone asks for eighteen right turns. Traffic lights barely feature by comparison: seven sets across 59 km. What that adds up to is a test where the marking follows your own decisions rather than a signal's, over and over, on Balgownie Road, Scotstown Road, The Parkway and the streets around Bridge of Don. Two-thirds of the distance is at 30 mph and a quarter at 50, so the pace changes often. The pass rate has fallen by more than seven points since 2021 and now sits below the national average.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

Give-way junctions are what Aberdeen North does. There are 54 of them on the practice loops on this page and only seven sets of traffic signals, so almost every decision about a gap is yours to make and yours to be marked on. One loop asks for eighteen right turns on its own. Right turns across oncoming traffic, repeated that many times in twelve kilometres, will find any weakness in observation or gap judgement.

Pedestrians are the second thing. The loops carry 29 signalled crossings and five zebra crossings. Zebras are worth practising deliberately, because there is no light to tell you what to do: you read the pavement on both sides, cover the brake, and stop for anyone waiting rather than deciding they were not really going to cross.

The speed pattern is a wide one. Two-thirds of the distance is at 30 mph and just under a quarter at 50, with a small share at 20. Fifty is the limit that catches people. Candidates coming off a long run of 30 mph streets tend to hold back at 40 without realising, and Whitestripes Avenue and The Parkway are the sort of open road where that shows.

Roundabouts are less of a feature here than at most Scottish centres. Four loop roads carry them and there is not a single mini-roundabout anywhere on the routes.

Eleven traffic-calming features sit on the loops. Manoeuvres are asked for on the quieter residential streets rather than on the campus.

Test day at Aberdeen North

Check which site you are going to. Car and ADI tests, parts 2 and 3, are held at Unit A4, Davidson House, Campus 1, Balgownie Road at Bridge of Don. Lorry and bus tests stayed at the older Cloverhill Road site, also at Bridge of Don, until further notice. The two addresses are not the same place and DVSA says so in the centre's own record, so read your confirmation rather than the postcode you have used before.

DVSA publishes that you can access this centre if you use a wheelchair. Nothing is published about candidate parking. A modern business campus of this kind normally has bays nearby, which is typical rather than confirmed for this address.

There is no railway station within easy reach, so almost everyone arrives by car.

The wait here has been going the wrong way. Candidates tested in the most recent month of figures had waited a median of about fifteen weeks, some five weeks longer than a year earlier and above the national median. Book as early as you can and do not count on moving the date closer.

Booking, moving and cancelling all go through GOV.UK.
