Key facts

  • Gloucester's pass rate was 47.8% in 2025/26 from 7,420 tests, 2.2 points below the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 14 of 21 centres in South West (South West average 51.7%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 3.9 points below it.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 4.8 points, from 52.6% to 47.8%.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 19 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
  • 32.4% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

Gloucester's test centre is at Quedgeley, on a business park south of the city, and its numbers are moving the wrong way: 47.8 per cent now against 52.6 in 2021/22, 222nd of the 302 centres ranked and 3.9 points below the South West average. The wait is 19 weeks, one of the longer ones in the region. The driving is roundabouts and 30 mph estate roads — ten named roundabouts across the practice loops on this page and only two give-way junctions in the whole set, so nearly every junction has a shape to read rather than a gap to judge. Fourteen pieces of traffic calming and 23 schools tell you the rest: this is a test done slowly and precisely.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

Ten roundabouts are named on the practice loops on this page — Merlin Drive, Woodvale, Newhaven Road, Naas Lane, Fieldcourt Drive, School Lane, Falcon Close, Greenhill Drive, Bristol Road and Severnvale Drive — with two mini-roundabouts as well. One 9.9 kilometre loop takes in eleven roundabouts and asks for only four right turns and three left. That is a drive made almost entirely of approaches and exits.

Against all that, two give-way junctions on the whole set. Almost nothing here is an open T-junction where you pick your own gap in moving traffic. If that is your weakness, these are kinder roads than most; if lane discipline and signalling off a roundabout is the weakness, they are harder.

Kingsway and the Quedgeley estates supply the distance: Merlin Drive, Severnvale Drive, Fieldcourt Drive, Bodiam Avenue, Greenhill Drive, Woodvale and Newhaven Road, with Bristol Road and Naas Lane on the outside. Seventy-six per cent of it is at 30 mph, 12 per cent at 40 and 9 per cent at 60, and the 60 is single-carriageway lane — there is no dual carriageway on the set.

Fourteen pieces of traffic calming and six zebra crossings, more zebras than most sets carry, come with the 23 schools in the area. Eleven sets of traffic signals and ten signalled crossings do the rest of the joining. There are no level crossings.

Test day at Gloucester

The centre is on Falcon Close, in the Green Farm Business Park at Quedgeley, GL2 4LY, south of Gloucester itself and off the Bristol Road. It is a multi-purpose site: car tests, motorcycle module 1 off-road and module 2 on-road, and ADI part 2 and part 3. The off-road motorcycle area means there is usually more moving in the yard than at a car-only centre, so follow the signs in rather than parking on instinct.

No station is close enough to be practical, so nearly everyone arrives by car or with an instructor. DVSA publishes nothing about candidate parking here; on a business park the safe assumption is that the marked bays belong to the units and you leave the car on the estate road.

The wait was a median of 19 weeks for tests taken in July 2026, well above the national 11.9, with the first week showing a tenth of its slots free 24 weeks out. A year earlier it was 23 weeks.

Cheltenham is 16.5 kilometres away and was waiting 13.5 weeks, but passes 43.2 per cent — a shorter wait for a harder test. Monmouth, 29.8 kilometres off, passes 51 per cent at 11.6 weeks. Booking and cancelling is through GOV.UK only.

This centre is not car only. DVSA publishes results for these categories separately, and they are taken by different candidates on different vehicles, so the rates are not comparable with the car figure above.
