Key facts
- Boston's pass rate was 50.7% in 2025/26 from 4,784 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 14 of 20 centres in East Midlands (East Midlands average 50.8%), one of the lower pass rates in the region.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 7.8 points, from 58.5% to 50.7%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 4.5 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 10.9 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 6.4 weeks.
Boston has ten level crossings mapped within two and a half kilometres of the test centre, and the routes around town cannot avoid them all. The other thing that marks the place out is John Adams Way, the dual carriageway that carries the through traffic; two of the practice loops on this page use it as their main stretch, and joining it, picking a lane and leaving it again is what they ask for. Away from those two features it is an ordinary market-town test. Four fifths of the roads mapped around the centre are 30 mph, there are fifteen mini-roundabouts, and only two named conventional roundabouts, at Bargate and Liquorpond Street. The pass rate is about the national average, though it has dropped since 2021, and the wait is short by national standards.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
John Adams Way is the piece of road that separates a Boston test from a village one. It is dual carriageway, it takes the traffic that would otherwise grind through the middle of the town, and two of the practice loops on this page use it as their main stretch. Lane choice on the approach, a mirror check that actually happens before the move, and leaving at the right exit are what get marked out there.
The A1137 and A1138 feed it, and Spalding Road, London Road and Sleaford Road are the radial roads that bring you in from the edges. Four fifths of the roads mapped around the centre are 30 mph and about one in six is 40, so the changes are frequent and they are signed rather than obvious.
Level crossings are the local hazard. Ten are mapped within two and a half kilometres, on the lines through and around the town. If a barrier drops, stop well behind the line, wait, and do not shuffle forward. Move off promptly and calmly once it lifts.
Fifteen mini-roundabouts sit in the same radius, against only two conventional named ones at Bargate and Liquorpond Street. That balance matters, because mini-roundabouts are where the exit signal gets forgotten and where drivers cut across the painted circle instead of going round it.
Manoeuvres are usually set on the quieter residential streets around Carlton Road, Nursery Road and Brothertoft Road, where the kerb line is straight and one side is parked.

Test day at Boston
The centre is on the Redstone Industrial Estate, unit 2 on plot 3, so the plot and unit numbers matter more than the street name when you are hunting for the door. Allow a couple of minutes for that on a first visit.
DVSA publishes that you can access this centre if you use a wheelchair. The test types are car, motorcycle module 2 and ADI part 3, so there will be motorcycle candidates on site some days, but there is no module 1 testing here.
Parking is not in the official record. Industrial units of this kind usually have a small number of bays outside and some room on the estate road, which is typical rather than confirmed. The practical plan is to arrive about ten minutes early, leave the car where it is clearly not blocking a working unit, and walk in.
Boston station is under a mile away, so arriving by train is realistic if your instructor is meeting you at the centre.
The examiner calls you by name, checks your licence and asks you to sign the declaration that the car is insured for the test. The eyesight check is done outside on the estate before you get in. Booking, moving and cancelling a test go through GOV.UK only.
